Massively massively recommended. We had a big battery array (49kW across three phases) put in four years ago. c £35k cost. It’s been a total nightmare for many reasons, not least 1. our installer being totally useless and unresponsive and 2. Givenergy, our battery supplier, going bust. Long story short it had never worked anywhere near properly despite countless hours on phones and emails; the best we’d achieved was one third of the batteries working. Rather than write it off, I asked a PM friend to try to source someone who could come on site and review and revive the system. He found Solar Tech Support and Ron. Ron assured us he was the man to get it going again. After so many years of pain, I was not convinced but, true to his word, five hours later it was up and running. Lovely chap, super knowledgeable with a support team to lean on who are also clearly super technical. I honestly didn’t think there was much chance of getting this array going ever again so was absolutely delighted when Ron and team pulled it off. Bravo!

Ron was extremely helpful and tried his best to repair/reset our GivEnergy inverter remotely. In the event he was unsuccessful but he couldn’t have been more helpful. If you have problems with a GivEnergy system please contact him. Highly recommended
Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.
Our SolarEdge PV system with LG batteries had its first hiccup after 8 years of hard work. The Inverter failed. Fortunately I found Solar-Tech-Support who diagnosed the problem very quickly, ordered a replacement unit and fitted it shortly after we received the unit from SolarEdge. Very thorough and professional approach. Thank you, a solid 5 star recommendation.
When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.
EPS compatibility across the Cardiff brand mix
Cardiff and the wider South Wales market has a broad mix of inverter brands — a lot of FiT-era systems from 2011–16 plus more recent battery retrofits. Some inverters support EPS directly, others need an additional step. Here's how the most common Cardiff brands break down for backup power.
These hybrid inverters support EPS natively. If you already have one of these with battery storage, adding EPS is a wiring job — dedicated circuit or changeover switch, neutral-earth bond, inverter configuration. Half a day on site in most cases.
These are string inverters or microinverter systems — they don't support EPS. To get backup power, you need a hybrid inverter with battery (like a GivEnergy AIO) installed alongside via AC coupling. The hybrid handles the battery and provides the EPS output. A combined battery-plus-EPS project.
A lot of the older Cardiff installs we see — particularly along the Severn estuary in Penarth, Barry, and Cardiff Bay where salt-laden coastal air ages outdoor kit faster — are FiT-era string systems with no battery. If you have one of these and want backup power, the route is a battery retrofit with EPS wired in from day one. GivEnergy is the brand we fit most often for this. Battery retrofit in Cardiff →
Choosing the right EPS configuration for your Cardiff property
The right EPS setup depends on your property size, battery capacity, and what you want protected. Cardiff has everything from Victorian terraces in Cathays and Roath to large detached homes in Cyncoed and Radyr — here's how we typically size EPS across the city.
Compact properties with 5 kWh batteries typically suit a dedicated EPS circuit protecting lights, fridge-freezer, boiler, and broadband. Keeps the essentials running for 10–18 hours depending on load. The most cost-effective option for smaller homes.
Mid-size properties with 5–10 kWh storage. A dedicated EPS circuit works well here too, but with more protected circuits — adding the upstairs ring main and a socket circuit keeps bedrooms and offices running. A manual changeover is worth considering if you want full-house coverage.
Larger homes with 10 kWh+ batteries often want full-house protection. An automatic changeover switch means the entire property switches to battery power within milliseconds — no manual intervention, no circuits left unprotected. The premium option for premium installs.

System left behind by a closed-down installer? EPS may be the missing piece
Plenty of Cardiff homeowners are left supporting a solar or battery system whose original installer has since folded — among them customers of the South Wales firm PV Solar Solutions. In a lot of these cases the battery was set up for daily self-consumption only, with no EPS circuit wired. If your hybrid inverter supports EPS mode (and most do), we can add the backup wiring as a standalone job — no need to touch the rest of the system, and no need for the original installer to still be trading.
If your orphaned system is solar-only with no battery, you'd need a battery retrofit first — we can handle that as a combined battery-plus-EPS project with EPS wired in from day one. Not sure where you stand with a closed installer? Here's how to take over an orphaned system →
EPS already installed but not working?
The most common EPS fault we see across Cardiff is a system that has EPS mode enabled in the inverter settings but trips the moment the grid drops. In the vast majority of cases, the root cause is a missing neutral-earth bond on the EPS output. When the grid disconnects, the inverter creates an isolated supply — without a neutral-earth bond, RCDs lose their reference and trip instantly. It's a single-visit fix, and we can often confirm the cause from your monitoring data on a free same-day remote diagnostic before we even come out.
