Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

What a fantastic service. Had my fault diagnosed within minutes and actually managed to resolve the issue remotely within a few minutes more. This guy is like a “Solar Batman” helping consumers fix their problems using his extensive industry knowledge and expertise. Outstanding service. Thank you so much.

Massively massively recommended. We had a big battery array (49kW across three phases) put in four years ago. c £35k cost. It’s been a total nightmare for many reasons, not least 1. our installer being totally useless and unresponsive and 2. Givenergy, our battery supplier, going bust. Long story short it had never worked anywhere near properly despite countless hours on phones and emails; the best we’d achieved was one third of the batteries working. Rather than write it off, I asked a PM friend to try to source someone who could come on site and review and revive the system. He found Solar Tech Support and Ron. Ron assured us he was the man to get it going again. After so many years of pain, I was not convinced but, true to his word, five hours later it was up and running. Lovely chap, super knowledgeable with a support team to lean on who are also clearly super technical. I honestly didn’t think there was much chance of getting this array going ever again so was absolutely delighted when Ron and team pulled it off. Bravo!

Prompt and useful support regarding my Sunsynk system lack of performance. Ronald simplified the technical issues to make them understandable. Many thanks, looking forward to follow up.

Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

My GivEnergy solar and battery system is failing intermittently, GivEnergy is in administration and so is my installer, so it was a relief to get Ron’s expert advice.

What actually goes wrong with Pylontech batteries

Pylontech problems land in one of two camps: the battery will not talk to the inverter, or one module in the stack has tripped and taken the whole bank down. The first camp is nearly always configuration. Wrong battery type selected on the inverter, the comms cable in the RS485 port when the inverter wants CAN, a baud rate mismatch, or two modules both set as master on the DIP switches.

Module faults on the US2000C, US3000C and US5000 announce themselves with an amber or red LED. Amber is a warning, usually cell imbalance or high temperature, and imbalance gets common once a module passes three or four years old. Red is a BMS protection trip, and because the BMS treats a stack as one system, a single tripped module can shut down the entire bank. Our US series fault guide covers LED interpretation and module isolation, and the pairing guide walks through every comms checkpoint.

Before you chase settings: Pylontech only pairs with open-protocol inverters like Solis, Sofar, Victron, Lux and SolaX. GivEnergy and Fox ESS are closed systems and will not accept a Pylontech battery, whatever you configure. The remote diagnostic is free, so start there.

FAQ

Pylontech fault questions answered

The most common cause is the battery type setting on the inverter. Set to generic lithium or user-defined instead of Pylon, the inverter sends commands the Pylontech BMS does not answer. After that, check the cable is in the right port (the battery has separate RS485 and CAN ports, and the wrong one fails silently), that the baud rate matches on RS485, and that only one module in a stack is set as master on the DIP switches. Two masters means intermittent BMS dropouts.
Most of them. Pairing failures are nearly always configuration faults (battery type, protocol, baud rate, module count and capacity) and those get sorted remotely. Cell imbalance and BMS protection trips on US series modules are diagnosable remotely from the LED status and the inverter event log, and a controlled rebalancing cycle can help restore an imbalanced module. Physical work needs hands on site: a damaged comms cable, DIP switch changes, or swapping a failed module. For those we give you a clear specification of what needs doing.
Nothing to diagnose. The remote diagnostic is free and we work on a no fix, no fee basis: you only pay £75 if we fix the fault remotely. Most pairing and configuration faults fall in that bracket. If it turns out to need on-site work, such as replacing a faulted module in a stack, you pay us nothing and get a clear specification of exactly what needs doing.
