My GivEnergy solar and battery system is failing intermittently, GivEnergy is in administration and so is my installer, so it was a relief to get Ron’s expert advice.

Ron responded very promptly regarding my GivEnergy battery issue, his knowledgeable diagnosis was spot on and resolved the issue on first attempt. Would recommend to any and all.
Contacted Ron with a problem and he sorted it out quickly with no problems at all. Very knowledgeable on anything solar/ batteries. I would recommend him to anyone
I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.
My 90-year-old father-in-law had a solar system installed nearly three years ago that never worked properly and kept tripping out. Neither the original installer nor GivEnergy could resolve the issues, and we were even pushed towards replacing the system entirely when GivEnergy went bust. I contacted Ron at Solar Tech Support via WhatsApp, and within a few hours he had diagnosed multiple faults — including incorrect wiring that posed a potential fire risk. He carried out a home visit in Nottingham for £295 (including parts), fixed everything, completed firmware updates, and ensured the system was fully operational. Since then, it has worked perfectly. Ron was knowledgeable, responsive, and took the time to explain everything clearly. Highly recommended — excellent value and complete peace of mind.
I work for a Solar Company and had a customer with a GivEnergy system that we are not versed in. Ron took the time to explain the issues my customer was having and between us managed to rectify the issues. 10 Stars ... Thanks again STS
Gen 3 hybrid range — top-line specs (from datasheets)
DC-coupled hybrid — three single-phase models, two architectures
The Gen 3 hybrid is a DC-coupled inverter that connects solar PV strings directly to its MPPT inputs and integrates a battery interface in the same chassis. Three models in the range, all single-phase per the datasheets. The 3.6 and 5.0kW are LV machines (battery voltage 45–58V, RS485 comms) — they pair with GivBat 51.2V LV modules. The 8.0kW is a fundamentally different machine: HV-only (battery voltage 120–510V, CAN interface) — it pairs with the pre-built HV stackable kits. All three have in-built WiFi and LAN per datasheet. There is no external dongle and no "GivHub" product on the Gen 3 side.
GIV-HY-3.6 — Gen 3 3.6 kW hybrid (LV)
The entry single-phase LV hybrid. Output 3.6kW continuous, max apparent 3.8kVA — fits within the G98 single-notification window (≤3.68kW per phase). LV battery interface, RS485 comms, up to 5 GivBats in parallel. Suited to small to mid homes with a modest array.
Best fit: properties where the DNO restricts inverter output to G98 (≤3.68kW per phase), small to mid arrays up to ~15kWp total roof, or budget-conscious installs. Pair with GivBat 5.12 Gen 3 for compact storage or GivBat 9.5 Gen 3 for capacity.
GIV-HY-5.0 — Gen 3 5.0 kW hybrid (LV)
The mid-range single-phase LV hybrid — the most-installed Gen 3 model. 5kW output, G99 certified, same chassis as the 3.6, same LV battery interface, same in-built connectivity.
Best fit: the typical UK three to four-bedroom household. The 5.0 is the most-installed single-phase hybrid for a reason — output ceiling matches typical evening peak, EV smart-charging cohabits cleanly, and LV expansion lets you start with one GivBat and add more later.
GIV-HY-8.0 — Gen 3 8.0 kW hybrid (HV-only)
The flagship Gen 3 single-phase hybrid, and a fundamentally different machine from the 3.6 and 5.0. HV-only: battery voltage range 120–510V (nominal 340V), CAN interface — does NOT accept LV GivBats. 600V max PV, 12kW total DC across 4 strings (2 trackers × 2 strings each), 8kW EPS backup with 50A pass-through. AFCI arc fault detection per the datasheet. Still single-phase — there is no three-phase variant in the Gen 3 range.
Important — HV battery only. The 8.0 Gen 3 pairs with pre-built HV stackable kits per UKDatasheetStackableBatteriesv2.pdf: GIV-BAT-10.2-HV (3 packs, 230VDC, 10.2kWh), GIV-BAT-13.6-HV (4 packs, 307VDC, 13.6kWh), GIV-BAT-17.0-HV (5 packs, 384VDC, 17kWh) or GIV-BAT-20.4-HV (6 packs, 460VDC, 20.4kWh). It does not accept LV GivBat modules.
Which battery pairs with which Gen 3
Battery pairing is determined by the inverter's battery interface — RS485 + 45–58V on the 3.6/5.0, CAN + 120–510V on the 8.0. Wires of the right type, dip switches set correctly on LV, and HV-kit configuration handled at install. Maximum LV stack size is 5 per the Gen 3 datasheets ("Parallel Capability: Up to 5"). Note: the inverter ceiling still applies — a 3.6kW unit with 5 × 9.5kWh batteries still charges/discharges at 3.6kW max.
See the dedicated batteries page for the full LV/HV breakdown, RS485 dip-switch addressing (Master 0,0,0,0 ; Slaves 1,0,0,0…), and operating temperatures.
GivEnergy Gen 3 Hybrid questions
Not sure which Gen 3 fits your property?
Tell us about your supply (single-phase confirmed), roof and panel layout, existing equipment, and energy goals. We will recommend a model and battery pairing grounded in the datasheets — including whether LV (3.6 or 5.0 + GivBat) or HV (8.0 + stackable kit) is the right architecture for your situation.
