When my GivEnergy battery started playing up it became basically useless and several companies I called said they couldn’t help. Solar Tech Support really knew their stuff, communicated very well and resolved the problem quickly. Without them I’d have had to buy a replacement battery.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing. If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

Massively massively recommended. We had a big battery array (49kW across three phases) put in four years ago. c £35k cost. It’s been a total nightmare for many reasons, not least 1. our installer being totally useless and unresponsive and 2. Givenergy, our battery supplier, going bust. Long story short it had never worked anywhere near properly despite countless hours on phones and emails; the best we’d achieved was one third of the batteries working. Rather than write it off, I asked a PM friend to try to source someone who could come on site and review and revive the system. He found Solar Tech Support and Ron. Ron assured us he was the man to get it going again. After so many years of pain, I was not convinced but, true to his word, five hours later it was up and running. Lovely chap, super knowledgeable with a support team to lean on who are also clearly super technical. I honestly didn’t think there was much chance of getting this array going ever again so was absolutely delighted when Ron and team pulled it off. Bravo!

I work for a Solar Company and had a customer with a GivEnergy system that we are not versed in. Ron took the time to explain the issues my customer was having and between us managed to rectify the issues. 10 Stars ... Thanks again STS

Our 3 year old GivEnergy batteries froze. They were showing 0% on the app, but they were fully charged. Some how Ron took over our inverter and remotely cured the problem. We live in King’s Lynn, he is in Leeds I believe. Very grateful.

Solar Tech Support is an absolute lifesaver. My solar and battery system stopped working completely, but after one quick phone call, they fixed the problem straight away. The original provider, GivEnergy, has gone into administration, leaving me entirely without support from the original installers. It was a terrible situation on GivEnergy’s part, but thankfully, Solar Tech Support came to the rescue!

What actually goes wrong with Sofar kit

Two faults account for most of the Sofar calls we get, and both are covered in detail below. The first is grid disconnection. The inverter drops off the grid with a G-OV, G-UV, G-OF or G-UF code in the SolarMan event log. In the UK the usual culprit is local grid voltage climbing past 253V at midday when local solar systems all export at once. The inverter is doing its job, not failing. A G-ISO code is the odd one out: that points to a DC insulation fault and needs on-site testing.

The second is specific to the ME3000SP, the AC-coupled battery unit installed between 2016 and 2021. It stores energy fine, then provides nothing in a power cut. Usually that's a missing neutral-earth bond on the EPS circuit, EPS mode never enabled at commissioning, or no changeover relay fitted at all.

Both start the same way: a free remote diagnostic. We read your SolarMan logs and settings, tell you what's actually wrong, and whether anything on-site is needed. No fix, no fee.

FAQ

Sofar fault questions answered

Because grid voltage or frequency has gone outside G98/G99 limits, not because the inverter is failing. The most common UK cause is local voltage rising above 253V during peak solar hours when neighbouring systems all export at once. Check the SolarMan event log: G-OV means overvoltage, G-UV undervoltage, G-OF overfrequency, G-UF underfrequency. The inverter reconnects automatically when conditions settle. A wrong grid code setting can also cause needless trips, and a G-ISO code means a DC insulation fault, which is a different problem entirely.
Often, yes. Wrong grid code configuration, EPS mode never enabled on an ME3000SP, and battery SoC thresholds set below the EPS reserve are all sorted through SolarMan and the unit settings. Some faults need hands on site: a missing neutral-earth bond or changeover relay needs a qualified electrician, and a G-ISO isolation fault needs insulation resistance testing at the property. Persistent grid overvoltage is a DNO matter; we help you build the evidence and can set an export limit in the meantime.
The remote diagnostic is free, on a no fix, no fee basis. We review your SolarMan event log and settings, identify whether the fault is grid conditions, configuration, or hardware, and tell you straight. If the answer is on-site work, such as a neutral-earth bond for ME3000SP backup, you get a clear specification your electrician can quote from, so you only pay for work that actually needs doing.
