Ronald was able to organise a brilliant electrician with extensive experience of GivEnergy systems local to me in the SW. I have now got a fully functioning system and suspect that my electricity bill will be substantially reduced or in credit over a year. Also when said electrician discovered an overvoltage in the my local grid, Ronald prepared a very lucid and comprehensive report of the situation which I have now supplied to my local grid. Cannot recommend Ron and Dan enough.

Book your remote diagnosticHow diagnostics workAfter recently changing my fuse board the ct clamp broke, this meant my inverter was not communicating properly with my GivEnergy system. After several people letting me down, finally got put in touch with Ron. He came out within 24hours & resolved the fault within an hour, no fuse just got on with it. Work was tidy & arrived when he said he would. Ron followed up a few days later to confirm all was still good, great service from all involved.
Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.
Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.
My Givenergy battery stopped working nearly a month ago. After unsuccessfully reaching out to my installer, who looks like he's also busted, I found Solar Tech Support on a Google search. They fixed my issue in a couple of hours. Any frustrated Givenergy customers, I highly recommend these guys.
I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!
Every case study
Real faults from real STS customers. What the inverter said, what it actually was, and how it was diagnosed — usually without a site visit. Newest first.
A decade-old premium SolarEdge + LG Chem system threw a production fault on one inverter. We arranged the warranty replacement, swapped the faulty unit, and reconfigured the newer inverter to talk to the existing kit — back up and running in a few hours.
A four-year-old commercial solar + battery system that had never delivered: one inverter in error, three more idle on miswired comms, a dead battery stack, monitoring never handed over — and the panels fitted on the north roof, costing ~13,000 kWh (~15%) a year.
Four years, ~£35,000, three-phase with six AC3 inverters, an EMS per phase, EPS backup on every inverter and LoRa grid comms — one of the largest residential GivEnergy systems in the country, and it had never once worked. Here’s the late night it finally came good.
A customer messaged us on WhatsApp: his 90-year-old father-in-law had been resetting the battery breaker daily, and the installer had walked away citing GivEnergy's administration. We found the MCB cooking itself on a badly-made termination — a fire risk, not a battery fault.
Kerry's FoxESS inverter kept shutting down on over-voltage. He was sure the mains was too high — but feared he could never prove it to the network operator. The evidence was sitting in the inverter all along.
Mike added two battery packs and asked a fair question: are they doing anything? You can't tell from the app. So we ran one full discharge and integrated the power curve — here's the maths, and the answer.
Patrick's 12-month-old SunSynk 8kW had three uneven strings paired badly across two parallel MPPTs. The output graph cliffed every sunny morning at 09:00. Bad engineering, named.
A misleading fault code, a new battery pack, and an installer who picked up the phone three years after the install. The kind of fix the front panel was never going to give you.
Why we publish these
Most solar faults are misdiagnosed because the front-panel code is a generalised fallback, not the real root cause. Writing the real diagnosis up — code, cause, fix, time-on-the-clock — is the closest thing this industry has to peer-reviewed proof. It also keeps us honest.
Principle-first explainers behind the case studies — how inverters, CT clamps, batteries and tariffs actually work.
