Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

Ronald was great to help me sort out my giv energy inverter issue since company has gone bankrupt in april 26.
Ron is incredibly knowledgeable about solar installs in general but knows givenergy products inside out and the key personnel that worked there from the start to the end. My problem was spurious in its nature but Ron spotted it straight away when he understood the installation details. In essence the installers didn’t fit the correct trip switch. He also gave me hope that in the future hardware repairs could be possible but it’s still early days. This guy really is in the know and keen to sucas a business If you need help don’t hesitate
I reached on behalf of a friend, who had lost control of their battery following a storm. A couple giv energy “dealers” had attempted and said different fixes. None worked. Solar tech support solved it remotely on the first attempt almost instantly. Genuinely a 10/10 service.
My GivEnergy hybrid inverter + battery system had worked faultlessly for 3 years when it suddenly stopped charging and discharging the battery. On contacting my supplier, who had used a sub-contractor for the installation work, I was provided with an email address at GivEnergy but, as it turned out, this is only for GivEnergy Software who are not able to assist. A Google search led to the Solar Tech Support web site, which contains a wealth of helpful information. I requested a remote solar diagnostic, and after providing Ron access to my inverter, he was able to identify and fix the problem within minutes. I am very impressed by Ron’s expertise and knowledge, which included useful information on the current state of GivEnergy Ltd. I would thoroughly recommend Solar Tech Support.
Our 3 year old GivEnergy batteries froze. They were showing 0% on the app, but they were fully charged. Some how Ron took over our inverter and remotely cured the problem. We live in King’s Lynn, he is in Leeds I believe. Very grateful.
Common Hanchu problems we diagnose
Every fault below has a proven diagnostic path. Book a diagnostic if you're unsure where to start.
Hanchu hybrid inverter connected but battery stays flat overnight despite an Octopus or time-of-use tariff. Most often a TOU schedule configuration error in SolarMan — charge window not enabled, grid charge toggle off, or SoC target already met.
See diagnostic guide →Hanchu inverters are configured via SolarMan's TOU schedule. Common issues include charge windows offset by BST/GMT, the grid charge enable setting being toggled off, or peak shaving settings overriding the schedule. We configure the full TOU schedule remotely.
See diagnostic guide →Hanchu LV batteries communicate with the inverter over CAN bus. A BMS comm fault means the inverter can't read the battery state, which causes it to stop charging or discharging. Can be caused by a loose CAN cable, incorrect BMS pairing, or a battery firmware mismatch.
See diagnostic guide →Battery fully charged but not powering the house during peak times. Often caused by a discharge schedule not configured in SolarMan, or the minimum SoC threshold being set too high. EPS/backup mode must also be correctly configured if backup power is needed.
See diagnostic guide →Hanchu hybrid powered but not generating. Check SolarMan for DC input voltage — if zero, check DC isolators and PV string connections. A string fault or MPPT tracking error can stop generation while battery and grid functions continue normally.
See diagnostic guide →Hanchu inverters comply with G98/G99 and will disconnect if grid voltage or frequency goes outside permitted limits. The inverter reconnects automatically once conditions normalise. In areas with many solar installations, repeated trips may need export limiting to prevent instability.
See diagnostic guide →Hanchu hybrid inverters support EPS (Emergency Power Supply) mode but it requires a dedicated EPS output wiring circuit and must be enabled in settings. If the house lost power during a grid outage, EPS may not have been commissioned correctly during installation.
See diagnostic guide →Hanchu uses the SolarMan platform (SolarmanPro) for monitoring. If the app shows offline, the inverter's WiFi datalogger has lost connection — common after a router change or firmware update. The inverter and battery continue operating normally; only monitoring data is interrupted.
See diagnostic guide →Hanchu dataloggers require 2.4GHz WiFi. Many reconnection issues after router upgrades are caused by the router defaulting to 5GHz or combined band steering. We reconfigure the datalogger remotely and restore SolarMan monitoring.

About Hanchu ESS — what you need to know
Hanchu ESS is a Chinese energy storage manufacturer producing hybrid inverters and LiFePO4 (LFP) battery systems for the residential and light commercial market. Their UK range includes single-phase hybrid inverters — the HC-3.68KW-HY, HC-5KW-HY, and HC-6KW-HY — paired with Blade LFP battery modules in capacities from 3.2kWh to 9.4kWh per unit. The inverters carry an IP66 rating, a 12-year inverter warranty, and a 10-year battery warranty. Blade LFP chemistry offers a high 95% depth of discharge, making nearly all the stated capacity usable in daily cycling.
Monitoring and schedule configuration is handled through the SolarMan platform (SolarmanPro for installers, the SolarMan app for homeowners). The most common support queries we handle for Hanchu systems are: Hanchu battery not charging overnight, Hanchu SolarMan offline, Hanchu BMS communication fault, Hanchu grid disconnection, and Hanchu Octopus tariff setup. Hanchu systems are distributed in the UK through companies including Powerland and Solar Battery Group. STS provides independent support — not affiliated with Hanchu ESS.
STS supports all major inverter and battery brands — not just Hanchu. If you have a mixed-brand system (e.g. Hanchu inverter with Lux or Dyness battery), visit the brand hub.
