Absolutely wonderful support. I have a GivEnergy system that was installed in 2022, and a firmware update was flagged in the app, so I proceeded to update the software .... and immediately regretted it, as my inverter came up with an error, and was not working at all! With no GivEnergy support available, and my installer saying there was nothing he could do, I googled help, and found Ron. What a stroke of good luck! Submitted an on line enquiry late morning, and received phone call just after 5 pm, and later that evening Ron was able to supply me with old firmware no longer available on the GivEnergy web site. I was then able to update the firmware using a GivEnergy youtube video as reference, and hey presto the system was back up and running. One further slight adjustment by Ron and we are back normal. What a relief. I have no hesitation in recommending Solar Tech Support if you have a problem. Great service! And if you are a GivEnergy system owner, whatever you do, DO NOT UPDATE FIRMWARE!

A really big thank you to Ron and his team, he has vast amounts of knowledge and got my system back up and running, also good to get on with. I was absolutely lost as to know what to do, no help from installer and somehow came across Ron and am I glad I did. I would definitely definitely recommend him to anyone who has faults with there solar system, any make I would say. Thanks again Ron a pleasure meeting you.

Massively massively recommended. We had a big battery array (49kW across three phases) put in four years ago. c £35k cost. It’s been a total nightmare for many reasons, not least 1. our installer being totally useless and unresponsive and 2. Givenergy, our battery supplier, going bust. Long story short it had never worked anywhere near properly despite countless hours on phones and emails; the best we’d achieved was one third of the batteries working. Rather than write it off, I asked a PM friend to try to source someone who could come on site and review and revive the system. He found Solar Tech Support and Ron. Ron assured us he was the man to get it going again. After so many years of pain, I was not convinced but, true to his word, five hours later it was up and running. Lovely chap, super knowledgeable with a support team to lean on who are also clearly super technical. I honestly didn’t think there was much chance of getting this array going ever again so was absolutely delighted when Ron and team pulled it off. Bravo!

A superb service from Ron who went beyond the normal service received from other Tech support companies. I live abroad and was badly let down when my givenergy system failed (and the company went bankrupt) and the local supplier ran away from the problem. Ron sorted the problem and even accessed specialist coding for the inverter that would not be available for suppliers. Ron also ran a full diagnostic to insure that all was in good working order afterwards. Without Rons support and patient assistance I doubt I would ever have got the system back up and running. Well done and thankyou and you have a customer for the future.

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

What it costs

Small system (≤ 8 panels)
from £695

Typical residential. Scaffolding and waste handling quoted separately based on access.

Battery removal add-on
+£200–£400

Lithium batteries require hazardous-waste handling. Added to base price if applicable. Quoted in writing.

Want them back after roof works?
from £1,395

Use Remove & reinstall solar (for roof works) instead — we remove, store, and reinstall once your roofer's finished.

When to use this service
Selling the property

Buyer doesn't want the system. We strip it off, settle the FIT/SEG, and you sell clean.

System end-of-life

Beyond economic repair, or the inverter has died and replacement isn't worth it. We remove and recycle.

Insurance aftermath

Storm damage, fire, or other write-off. We coordinate with your insurer's loss adjuster.

Major roof works planned

If you want the panels gone for good (not temporary), this is the right service. If you want them back afterwards, use Remove & Reinstall.

FIT or SEG dispute exit

Some customers leave a problematic FIT contract entirely. We handle the supplier paperwork.

Estate / deceased owner

Helping an executor settle a property with solar. We can liaise with solicitors and provide the paperwork they need.

How it works — 5 steps

1
Free scoping call

You tell us system size, location, why you're removing, and any roof-access notes. 10 minutes by phone or video.

2
Written quote

Fixed price for the on-site work, plus scaffolding and waste-handling estimates. You commit before we schedule anything.

3
On-site work

Half-day for a typical residential system. Panels off, rails off, DC cables removed, inverter/battery decommissioned, system isolated.

4
Paperwork

DNO de-registration filed (G99 reversal). FIT/SEG supplier notified. WEEE recycling certificate issued. Typically 1–2 weeks to complete.

5
Written completion report

Confirms what was removed, where it went, all reference numbers. Yours to keep for the property file.

FAQ

Common decommission questions

Several common scenarios: selling the property and the buyer doesn't want it; the system is end-of-life and beyond economic repair; insurance aftermath; major roof works; FIT or SEG dispute exit. We handle all of these. Each requires slightly different paperwork (FIT/SEG de-registration, DNO notification, MCS certificate disposal) but the on-site work is the same.
From £695 for a typical residential system. Final price depends on system size (number of panels), roof accessibility (scaffolding requirements), whether a battery is included (battery removal involves additional hazardous-waste considerations), and whether you want the panels recycled or kept for onward sale. We quote in writing after a free scoping call.
On-site removal of panels, mounting rails, and DC cabling. Inverter and battery removal if applicable. DNO de-registration paperwork (G98/G99 reversal). FIT/SEG de-registration with your supplier. Panel disposal or recycling certificate. Written completion report. Scaffolding and waste handling are quoted separately and depend on site access.
Yes. We can remove and palletise the panels for you to sell or transport. Most second-hand solar panels have residual value if they're less than 10 years old and in good condition. We'll advise on realistic market value during the scoping call. Disposal-cost saving depends on the market at the time.
Yes. We notify your DNO of the system removal (G99 reversal), inform your FIT or SEG supplier (so payments stop on the correct date), and provide a completion certificate you can keep for your records. If your FIT contract has tenure remaining, we'll explain the implications before you commit — sometimes worth pausing the decommission.
Yes, as standard. Solar panels go to a UK-licensed WEEE recycling facility. We provide a recycling certificate. Lithium batteries (where present) require dedicated hazardous-waste handling and add to the cost — we quote this separately because the per-battery cost varies by chemistry and capacity.
Typical residential job: half a day on-site, plus 1–2 weeks for the DNO and FIT/SEG paperwork to complete. We schedule the on-site work to suit you and your roofer if there's follow-on work planned. Larger systems or difficult access can extend to a full day.
If you only need the panels off temporarily for roof repair or replacement, our remove-and-reinstall service is the right fit (not full decommission). We remove, store, and reinstall — keeping your DNO registration, FIT/SEG and warranty intact throughout. From £1,395.
