Types of solar repair we carry out
Solar PV and battery storage systems are complex. Faults can appear in different components — from the inverter itself to wiring, battery management systems, and monitoring hardware. Below we outline the types of repair we handle regularly, and the brands we support.
• Inverter repair and replacement
Inverters are the heart of your solar system — they convert DC power from your panels into AC power for your home. Faults include: failure to start, fault codes, arc fault detection, earth leakage alarms, and repeated trip-out. We diagnose first — in many cases, a firmware update or settings reset resolves the issue without component replacement. If replacement is needed, we supply and fit new units for all major brands: SolarEdge, GivEnergy, Sunsynk, Growatt, Solis, Enphase, and more. We handle full decommissioning of the old unit, new unit configuration, and testing of all modes (grid-tie, battery charge/discharge, EPS).
• Battery system repair
Battery storage systems can develop multiple types of faults: BMS (battery management system) errors, CAN communication failures between battery and inverter, cell imbalance, charging failures, and firmware corruption. We repair and replace battery modules, recalibrate cell balancing where possible, and recover systems from communication loss. We support all major lithium battery brands including GivEnergy, Sunsynk, Growatt, LG Chem, and others. In cases where a battery module has failed, we can source and fit replacement modules or swap the entire battery pack if more cost-effective.
• DC wiring and connector repair
The DC side of your solar array carries high voltages and currents. Faults here can cause arcing and fire risk. Common issues: loose or corroded MC4 connectors, damaged DC cabling, undersized or incorrectly-routed string wiring, and missing or damaged junction box covers. We inspect all DC wiring, test continuity and insulation, replace damaged connectors, and upgrade cabling or routing where required for compliance and safety. This type of repair is often found in older systems or those installed without proper commissioning.
• AC isolator and switchgear replacement
The AC side includes isolators, MCBs (miniature circuit breakers), RCDs (residual current devices), and surge protection. Faults include: tripped RCD that won't reset, faulty isolator preventing system shutdown, and aging switchgear past replacement intervals. We can replace faulty units, upgrade protection, and ensure your system meets current wiring regulations. We liaise with your DNO (distribution network operator) if grid-side work is needed.
• Panel-level fault resolution
Individual solar panels can fail or degrade. Faults include: bypass diode failure (causing panel underperformance), cracked glass, delamination, and junction box failures. We use thermal imaging to identify problem panels, replace failed bypass diodes, and replace entire panels if damage is irreparable. We also resolve string-level imbalance where one or more panels are dragging down the output of the entire string — a common issue in older installations.
• Monitoring and communication module replacement
Modern solar systems communicate via WiFi, Ethernet, or cellular dongles to transmit data to the cloud. Communication failures prevent remote monitoring and can block inverter functionality. We diagnose and replace faulty monitoring modules, re-establish connectivity, and restore cloud logging. We support all major monitoring platforms and can recover systems where installers have disconnected modules without proper commissioning handover.
Not sure which component is faulty? Start with a remote diagnostic (£75) and we'll identify the exact fault and advise on repair options.
How repair pricing works
We believe in transparent, fixed pricing. You'll never receive a surprise bill. Here's how our repair pricing works and what you can expect to pay.
Why we always diagnose before quoting
Solar faults can have multiple root causes. Attempting a repair without knowing the exact fault risks ordering the wrong parts, wasting an engineer visit, and doubling your costs. We always diagnose first — either remotely (£75) or on-site (included in the repair fee if you proceed). This discipline keeps your costs down and your repair targeted.
What's included in the from-£245 repair price
The base repair fee covers: on-site diagnostic, labour to carry out the repair, testing of the repaired system, and a post-repair report. It does not include replacement components — parts are quoted separately once we know what's needed. For example, if your inverter needs a replacement control board, that component cost is separate from the labour cost; we quote both upfront before proceeding.
Typical cost ranges
Configuration faults, connector replacement, firmware recovery, settings correction, single component swaps
Multiple component replacement, battery BMS faults, complex wiring issues, inverter board replacement
Full inverter swap including commissioning, settings migration, configuration, and full system testing
These ranges are for labour only. If replacement parts are needed, we provide a separate itemised quote for the component cost. You approve the total (labour + parts) before any work starts.
How the £75 remote diagnostic offsets against on-site work
If you book a remote diagnostic first (£75), and it confirms you need an on-site repair visit, the diagnostic fee is deducted from the repair invoice. You won't be charged twice. The remote diagnostic also means the engineer arrives with the fault already identified — reducing on-site time and costs. See our remote diagnostic service page for more details.
Have questions about pricing for your specific fault? Contact us with a description of the issue and we'll give you a ballpark estimate before booking. See our full pricing page for complete transparency.
The repair process
We start with a remote diagnostic (£75) to identify the exact fault. Many faults are resolved at this stage. If a site visit is needed, the diagnostic means the engineer visit is targeted — no time wasted identifying the fault on-site.
Once we know what's needed, you receive a written cost. We don't begin repair work until you've agreed the price. If parts need ordering, we'll confirm lead times before booking the visit.
The engineer carries out the repair, tests all affected systems, and verifies correct operation — generation, battery charge/discharge, export, and EPS where fitted. We don't leave until the system is working correctly.
You receive a written report of what was found, what was repaired, and a post-repair health snapshot. If any further risks were identified during the visit, they'll be in the report with a recommendation.

Most solar system repairs are £245–£599. Complex inverter replacements are typically £795–£1,200. Configuration faults (CT clamp, export limit, charge schedule) are usually resolved remotely at £75. We always confirm the full cost in writing before starting work — there are no surprise invoices.
Yes — and that's in your interest, not just ours. Starting a repair without knowing the exact fault risks ordering the wrong parts and wasting an engineer visit. A remote diagnostic (£75) identifies the fault first, and the fee is not duplicated if on-site work follows.
Yes. We travel to all areas of the UK for on-site repair work. A mileage charge may apply for locations far from Yorkshire. Contact us to confirm availability and any travel costs for your area before booking.
On-site time is typically 2–4 hours for a standard repair. This includes diagnosis, repair, testing, and the post-repair report. Complex repairs or inverter replacements may take longer. If parts need to be ordered, we arrange a separate follow-up visit — we confirm the timeline before booking. Once you approve the quote, we work to complete the repair as quickly as safely and thoroughly possible.
We carry common replacement components on the van: inverter control boards, communication modules, MC4 connectors, DC isolators, fuses, and RCD devices. This allows us to complete many repairs on the first visit. For larger components like full inverter units or battery modules, we order in advance once you've approved the quote — this is more cost-effective than stocking every possible part. We coordinate delivery to minimise delay.
All repair work carries a 12-month warranty on labour. If a repair fails due to our workmanship within 12 months, we'll return and fix it at no charge (travel costs may apply). Replacement components carry the manufacturer's warranty — we pass this on to you. If an inverter or battery replacement fails within the manufacturer's warranty period, component warranty is honoured. Any issues related to installer faults outside our control are noted in the post-repair report and fall outside the labour warranty.
