Had issues with 10yr+ installation. 1 inverter going into alarm mode, unable to access monitoring apps and wanted someone to review and document worthiness of the 2 systems I have. As you will find with older systems, the original installers have moved on, other companies only want to replace and install new, or make up silly prices as they don't want the work, so struggling for 18 month plus trying to source someone to do this. Ronald managed to fit me in the day after contact as he was in the area. Spent a couple of hours on site, found issue with the inverter alarm and he monitoring this to find a total solution, got me back onto the monitoring apps, provided a report on the installations and identified potential areas of concern. These are the people you need for diagnostic reviews of your installations, long term industry professionals, who have a wealth of knowledge gained through working in the industry, know the differing systems and how to contact and approah the companies involved. These are the people you need if you are having issues with installers and / or product and/or supply companies.

Thank you for your diligence. On this occasion the battery was able to be saved but they have given a route to hopefully arrange a repair from the manufacturer.

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

After 7 months of not being able to access/control my system following a change of wi-fi provider, followed by the news that GivEnergy had ceased trading i was left high and dry. I was unable to get any help whatsoever from my installer, tried various electrical tradespeople etc but no-one knew how to help me. Changed the Dongle but then couldnt get this change recognised in the inverter. Found Solar Tech Support while researching yet again online. Ronald has been amazing. Responding very quickly to my emails and very knowledgeable on the system. Managed to give us the information we needed to get the Dongle up and running and created me another account which now works as it should. His help has been invaluable. Thank you so much. Reviews I saw from other people said Solar Tech Support are very good, but i would say they are Outstanding!! Thanks again for all your help- Mick & Sandra

GivEnergy replacements, one fixed price

This page covers replacement GivEnergy inverters supplied and installed by STS. If a different brand died, see the general inverter replacement service. And before you buy anything: a fair share of "dead" inverters are a settings or firmware fault — the remote diagnostic is free, no fix, no fee.

Supplied & installed
The range

Three replacements, three fixed prices

New units, available now. Every price covers the inverter, removal of the old unit, installation, commissioning, and portal configuration — nothing quoted separately afterwards.

GivEnergy 3 kW AC-coupled inverter, front view
3kW AC-coupled
£847 supplied & installed
Replaces an existing AC-coupled unit — or adds battery storage alongside your current solar inverter
Keeps your existing solar inverter in place
Warranty included — full terms provided in writing with your quote.
The battery-side box: it manages charge and discharge, your solar inverter keeps doing the solar.
GivEnergy 3.6 kW Gen 3 hybrid inverter, front view
3.6kW Gen 3 hybrid
£1,191 supplied & installed
The straight swap for a dead Gen 1/2 hybrid — existing LV GivBat batteries carry over
G98-certified: at ≤3.68kW per phase it is notify-after-connection — the fastest route
Warranty included — full terms provided in writing with your quote.
The right pick for most arrays around 4kWp and under — no DNO approval wait.
GivEnergy 5 kW Gen 3 hybrid inverter, front view
5kW Gen 3 hybrid
£1,191 supplied & installed
Same installed price as the 3.6kW — choose by array size and DNO headroom
Usually needs a G99 application (prior DNO approval) — we handle the paperwork with our DNO support service (£75)
Warranty included — full terms provided in writing with your quote.
For bigger arrays, or headroom to expand — worth the G99 process.

Every price above includes the inverter, removal of the old unit, installation by our engineers, commissioning, and portal configuration so your monitoring carries on. One price, nothing added later.

The inverter might be repairable. Firmware, settings and comms faults regularly masquerade as dead hardware — and the rapid-clicking fault has its own specific causes. Start with the free remote diagnostic, and read inverter not turning on or the clicking fault first if the symptoms match.

Choosing
Which model

AC-coupled or hybrid — and 3.6 or 5?

Two decisions, both simple once you know what the old unit was doing.

AC-coupled vs hybrid

A hybrid takes the solar DC directly and manages the battery — one box does everything, so a dead hybrid gets replaced by a hybrid. The AC-coupled unit sits alongside a separate solar inverter and only manages the battery — it is the replacement when that box dies, and the addition when a solar-only system wants storage. Not sure which you have? Send a photo of the label — we identify it the same day.

3.6kW vs 5kW — the DNO angle

Same price, different paperwork. The 3.6kW is G98: install first, notify the DNO within 28 days — fastest possible swap. The 5kW is G99: the DNO has to approve it before installation, which can add weeks. Our DNO application support (£75) handles the forms either way. G98 vs G99 explained →

FAQ

Replacement GivEnergy inverters — common questions

Check what the dead unit is. If it is a GivEnergy hybrid (solar DC comes into the inverter and it manages the battery), the like-for-like swap is a Gen 3 hybrid — 3.6kW or 5kW to match your array and DNO position. If it is the AC-coupled unit (it sits alongside a separate solar inverter and only manages the battery), the 3kW AC-coupled is the direct replacement — and it also works as an addition to a solar-only system you want to add storage to. Send us a photo of the old unit's label with your enquiry and we will confirm the right model before anything is booked.
Yes. One fixed price per model, supplied and installed: it covers the inverter itself, removal of the old unit, installation and wiring by our engineers, commissioning, and portal configuration so your monitoring carries on working. No call-out fee, no separate labour line, no parts added later. The only thing ever quoted separately is DNO paperwork support if your model needs a G99 application — that is £75 through our DNO support service, and we tell you up front if it applies.
Same installed price — £1,191 — so choose by array size and DNO headroom, not cost. The 3.6kW Gen 3 is G98-certified: at or under 3.68kW per phase it only needs a notification after connection, which keeps the swap simple and fast. The 5kW Gen 3 is G99 territory: it usually needs prior approval from your DNO before installation, which adds paperwork and lead time. If your solar array is around 4kWp or less and you want the quickest route, the 3.6kW usually wins; if you have a bigger array or plan to expand, the 5kW is worth the G99 process. G98 vs G99 explained →
In most cases, yes — a dead Gen 1/2 hybrid to a Gen 3 hybrid is straight-swap territory. The Gen 3 hybrids run the same 51.2V LV GivBat battery range, so existing LV batteries carry over; in a mixed-generation stack the Gen 3 side takes the Master role, and we sort the addressing and cabling as part of the install. The portal configuration is redone so your history and monitoring continue. We confirm compatibility from your battery model before booking — that is part of the free check, not an extra.
Genuinely, sometimes — and it costs nothing to find out. A fair share of "dead" GivEnergy inverters are a firmware, settings or communication fault rather than failed hardware, and some fault patterns (like the rapid relay clicking) have specific causes worth diagnosing before any money changes hands. Start with the free remote diagnostic — no fix, no fee. If the unit really is done, you already know the fixed replacement price. Inverter not turning on →
The physical swap is usually a half-day on site — old unit off the wall, new one mounted, wired, commissioned, and the portal reconfigured before we leave. The variable is the DNO side: the 3.6kW (G98) can go in straight away with a notification afterwards, while the 5kW (G99) usually needs the DNO's approval first, which is DNO-specific and can take a few weeks. We book the install around that timeline and handle the paperwork with you.
