Amazing support, went out of his way to help try and get us back up and running

Paul Smith · May 2026

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Tony Deacon · May 2026

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

Ron was really helpful. He remotely adjusted my battery settings on the same day I contacted him, and at a reasonable price. Great service.

Our SolarEdge PV system with LG batteries had its first hiccup after 8 years of hard work. The Inverter failed. Fortunately I found Solar-Tech-Support who diagnosed the problem very quickly, ordered a replacement unit and fitted it shortly after we received the unit from SolarEdge. Very thorough and professional approach. Thank you, a solid 5 star recommendation.

STS were incredibly responsive and helpful In diagnosing an issue with my GivEnergy inverter. Although distance meant it was impractical for me to use them to fully solve the issue, I’m grateful for the help and detail they provided. Don is a real professional gent and a hero in my eyes.

What it costs

Remove + reinstall
from £1,395

Headline rate covering removal, safe storage, and reinstall once the roof works are complete. Final price depends on panel count, mounting type, and storage time — confirmed in the written quote. Scaffolding quoted separately.

When to use this service
Re-roofing

Roof replacement, full re-tile, or felt-and-batten refresh. Panels off, roof done, panels back on the same week.

Leak repair under the panels

Roofer needs access to a specific area under the array. We can remove just the affected panels if the layout allows.

Storm damage repair

Tiles ripped off, lead flashing replaced, ridge cap rebuild. We schedule with your insurer's timeline.

Structural repairs

Roof rafters, sagging ridge, or load-bearing tweaks. Panels stay off until the structural work is signed off.

Major extension over solar

Building work that affects the roof area where panels sit. Removal, storage, reinstall once the new roof is finished.

Not coming back? Use decommission instead

If you don't want the panels reinstalled, our Solar Decommission service handles permanent removal with FIT/SEG paperwork.

FAQ

Common questions

The single most common reason: your roof needs work and the solar panels are in the way. Re-tiling, leak repairs, structural repairs, storm-damage repair, or replacing the roof entirely. Roofers can't (and shouldn't) work around live solar panels — they need them off, stored safely, and put back once the roof is done.
From £1,395 for a typical residential system — includes removal, storage, reinstall, and recommissioning. Final price depends on system size, roof access (scaffolding), how long the panels are off the roof, and whether the inverter and battery need decommissioning during the gap. We quote in writing after a free scoping call.
Up to four weeks at standard pricing, which covers most roofing jobs. Longer storage adds a small monthly fee for warehouse space and insurance. We coordinate timing directly with your roofer so the panels go straight back on once the roof is ready.
No, providing the work completes within the agreed timeframe. The DNO registration stays in place. The FIT/SEG contract pauses naturally while the system isn't generating, then resumes when we recommission. We notify your supplier on your behalf so there's no payment dispute.
Yes — actively. We schedule the removal a day or two before the roof works start, and the reinstall as soon as your roofer signs off. We talk to your roofer directly about scaffolding access, lifting points, and any roof-tile changes that affect mounting. One less thing for you to manage.
Palletised and stored in dry, secure storage. Insured against theft and damage. We label each panel's original position so reinstall recreates the same configuration — keeps your generation output identical. Mounting brackets and DC cables stored together to avoid mix-ups.
Yes. Full commissioning: DC string voltages verified, AC connection tested, inverter brought back online, monitoring portal reconnected, and a generation test confirms output matches pre-removal baseline. You get a written commissioning report.
If the roofer reveals issues with the original solar install (poor mounting, water ingress through bolt holes, missing flashings), we tell you and quote any extra remedial work before the reinstall. Sometimes worth catching now while the panels are off and the roof is being worked on anyway.
