Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.
My GivEnergy hybrid inverter + battery system had worked faultlessly for 3 years when it suddenly stopped charging and discharging the battery. On contacting my supplier, who had used a sub-contractor for the installation work, I was provided with an email address at GivEnergy but, as it turned out, this is only for GivEnergy Software who are not able to assist. A Google search led to the Solar Tech Support web site, which contains a wealth of helpful information. I requested a remote solar diagnostic, and after providing Ron access to my inverter, he was able to identify and fix the problem within minutes. I am very impressed by Ron’s expertise and knowledge, which included useful information on the current state of GivEnergy Ltd. I would thoroughly recommend Solar Tech Support.
I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. Within the hour on a Saturday, he phoned and we discussed the problem. He logged in remotely and gave excellent advice. I'm too far away for his on-site help but he did diagnose the problem and was happy also to chat through my thoughts about an upcoming solar/battery install I'm planning. Great bloke.... if only he was nearer!
Brilliant support to get my solar battery working again. I didn’t expect help on a Saturday but Ron answered the phone, listened and sent me the information I needed to get it going, answered questions etc. A brilliant service I’d happily recommend.
Thank you for your diligence. On this occasion the battery was able to be saved but they have given a route to hopefully arrange a repair from the manufacturer.
Common Victron problems we diagnose
Victron systems use VE.Bus networking, dedicated MPPT controllers, and GX monitoring — a fundamentally different architecture from grid-tied brands. These are the fault categories we handle most.
The #1 Victron support question. Multiple root causes: incorrect charge parameters, BMS lockout from a third-party battery, AC input current limit set too low, VE.Bus firmware mismatch, or DVCC configuration errors preventing the inverter-charger from entering bulk or absorption charge.
See diagnostic guide →Load exceeds the MultiPlus or Quattro continuous rating. Common in off-grid systems with electric showers, kettles, or immersion heaters. Includes load shedding strategies, PowerAssist configuration, and correct sizing guidance for off-grid installations.
See diagnostic guide →BMV or SmartShunt SoC trigger not starting the generator, relay wiring issues, or the MultiPlus rejecting generator power due to frequency or voltage tolerance settings. Growing demand as more UK properties run fully off-grid with backup generators.
See diagnostic guide →VE.Bus communication failures are the second most common Victron fault. Usually caused by self-crimped RJ-45 cables, daisy-chain topology issues in multi-unit setups, or phase master loss in parallel and three-phase configurations. Covers errors 3, 4, 5, 11, 14, and 17.
See diagnostic guide →Cerbo GX losing internet connectivity is a persistent complaint. WiFi dropout, Ethernet DHCP failure, static IP misconfiguration, and VRM access token expiry are the main causes. Affects the ability to monitor and control the system remotely via the VRM portal.
See diagnostic guide →Error 33 (PV overvoltage) and Error 38 (PV input shutdown) are the most searched Victron MPPT faults. SmartSolar 150/45 and 250/100 most affected. Usually caused by panel string voltage exceeding the controller's maximum Voc — particularly in cold weather when panel voltage rises.
See diagnostic guide →Third-party lithium BMS cutting power is common in Victron systems using Pylontech, BYD, or Dyness batteries. Low-temperature charge protection, cell imbalance, SoC calibration drift, and incorrect DVCC settings are the main triggers for unexpected BMS disconnects.
See diagnostic guide →Bluetooth pairing with VictronConnect, firmware updates, VRM portal registration, Cerbo GX network configuration, and remote console access. Covers the complete monitoring setup from physical connection to live VRM dashboard.
See setup guide →Initial VEConfigure setup, ESS assistant installation, UK grid code selection (G98/G99), charge current limits, battery monitor configuration, and AC input current limit. Covers the full commissioning sequence for grid-connected MultiPlus-II systems.

Remote Victron System Diagnostic
We access your VRM portal data, review alarm logs, check VE.Bus and VE.Direct communication status, and analyse MPPT performance data to identify the root cause of any fault.
Off-Grid System Recovery
Off-grid Victron systems need fast resolution — there is no grid to fall back on. We prioritise off-grid callouts and provide remote VEConfigure changes to restore power while investigating the underlying fault.
On-Site Victron Inspection
Physical inspection of VE.Bus cabling, RJ-45 connectors, MPPT PV string connections, battery bank wiring, and GX device networking. Full system health check and written report.
Victron datasheets, manuals & warranty PDFs
Download datasheets, installation manuals and warranty documents for Victron MultiPlus inverters and battery systems. Self-hosted and always current.

About Victron Energy systems — what makes them different
Victron Energy is a Dutch manufacturer that dominates the UK off-grid and hybrid solar market. Unlike grid-tied inverter brands that combine everything into a single box, Victron uses a component-based architecture: separate inverter-chargers (MultiPlus, MultiPlus-II, Quattro), dedicated MPPT solar charge controllers (SmartSolar, BlueSolar), and a central monitoring hub (Cerbo GX or Venus GX) running Venus OS. These components connect via VE.Bus (for inverter-chargers), VE.Direct (for MPPT controllers and battery monitors), and VE.Can (for compatible batteries and BMS units).
This modularity gives Victron systems enormous flexibility — supporting parallel operation, three-phase configurations, multiple MPPT strings, and a wide range of third-party batteries. The trade-off is complexity. The most common queries we handle: MultiPlus not charging, VE.Bus error codes, MPPT PV overvoltage, Cerbo GX offline, battery BMS disconnect, and generator auto-start failures. Victron's own VRM portal provides excellent data when it's connected — our job is diagnosing faults when it isn't, or when the data reveals a configuration problem. STS provides independent support — not affiliated with Victron Energy.
STS supports all major inverter and battery brands. If your Victron system is paired with a third-party battery, visit that brand's page for battery-specific guidance.
