GivEnergy in Ireland after the administration your battery still works — here's how, and how a UK engineer helps remotely

GivEnergy Ltd, the UK manufacturer that supplied the Irish market, entered administration on 9 April 2026. Your battery and your app still work — those run on a separate company that's not in administration. Here's the full picture, what to do about the warranty, and how a UK engineer with deep GivEnergy diagnostic experience helps an Irish owner remotely. Free remote diagnostic — £75 (about €90) only if I fix it. No fix, no fee.

Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

Mr P · Jun 2026

My Givenergy battery stopped working nearly a month ago. After unsuccessfully reaching out to my installer, who looks like he's also busted, I found Solar Tech Support on a Google search. They fixed my issue in a couple of hours. Any frustrated Givenergy customers, I highly recommend these guys.

Sarma Amirapu · May 2026

Excellent response to diagnose a problem on our SolarEdge installation. Kept us informed at every step. Diagnosis quickly completed and solution implemented.

Les Bennett · May 2026

Prompt and useful support regarding my Sunsynk system lack of performance. Ronald simplified the technical issues to make them understandable. Many thanks, looking forward to follow up.

Patrick Keenan · May 2026

Amazing support, went out of his way to help try and get us back up and running

Paul Smith · May 2026

What a fantastic service. Had my fault diagnosed within minutes and actually managed to resolve the issue remotely within a few minutes more. This guy is like a “Solar Batman” helping consumers fix their problems using his extensive industry knowledge and expertise. Outstanding service. Thank you so much.

Andrew Palmer · May 2026

Excellent service from Solar Tech Support. Extremely quick to respond, easy to deal with and clearly very talented engineers. They were persistent throughout a complex GivEnergy battery issue and resolved everything completely. Highly knowledgeable, professional and reassuring support from start to finish. Highly recommended.

David Harris · May 2026

Ron responded very promptly regarding my GivEnergy battery issue, his knowledgeable diagnosis was spot on and resolved the issue on first attempt. Would recommend to any and all.

Simon Hill · May 2026

Ron made more sense in 20 mins than our installer has done over the last 12 months There is a jungle out there and you need someone like Ron to give a comprehensive overview and solution

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Ian · May 2026

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Tony Deacon · May 2026

Contacted Ron with a problem and he sorted it out quickly with no problems at all. Very knowledgeable on anything solar/ batteries. I would recommend him to anyone

Phill · May 2026

I've spoken to Ron a couple of times with issues with my Givenergy installation. Such a friendly knowledge guy very highly recommended. Thank you very much for resolving my issues

michael fairhurst · May 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Keith Ballard · Apr 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Hugh Speirs · Apr 2026

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

Christopher · Apr 2026

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration. So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing. If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

What happened to GivEnergy, and what it means in Ireland

GivEnergy's UK manufacturer is in administration. GivEnergy Ltd appointed administrators on 9 April 2026. Ireland was served through that UK company and its distributors — there is no separate GivEnergy Ireland entity to fall back on, and no GivEnergy-employed support team operating here. (For the UK side of the same event, see our GivEnergy administration page.)

In plain terms: the company that made your battery is gone, and the manufacturer-backed warranty route is gone with it. What has not changed is the kit on your wall — it keeps running exactly as it did the week before the announcement.

There is one important survivor — GivEnergy Software Ltd, the separate company that runs the cloud and the GivEnergy app. That company was not included in the administration and is still trading. For you in Ireland, that means your app and the data flowing through it keep working.

The hardware

Will my GivEnergy battery keep working?

Yes. The battery and inverter hardware operate independently of the manufacturer's existence. The BMS, the cell chemistry, and the inverter firmware already on the unit all keep doing what they were doing on the day before the administration was announced.

Your system charges on solar surplus, discharges to cover your loads, exports to the grid (within your ESB Networks connection limit), and answers the app when you check it. None of that depends on a manufacturer server staying online.

What you have lost is future support: no warranty replacements, no firmware updates from a manufacturer team, no new commissioning options. The hardware that's installed now is the hardware you have — which is exactly why keeping it healthy and correctly configured matters more than it did.

Warranty reality

What about my warranty in Ireland?

The manufacturer warranty is effectively gone. The UK administrator has confirmed it will not be honouring further GivEnergy Ltd hardware warranties, and there is no Irish entity that inherits that obligation.

Your stronger position is under Irish and EU consumer law. The Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980 and the Consumer Rights Act 2022 give you statutory rights — goods must be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose — and those rights run against the retailer or installer who sold you the system, not GivEnergy directly. If your installer is still trading, that is the right party to raise it with.

What I'd actually do as an owner today: (1) keep your original quote, invoice, and commissioning paperwork together; (2) put any quality concern to your installer in writing, citing the Consumer Rights Act 2022; (3) plan for the practical reality that any future fix is out-of-warranty paid work, and budget accordingly. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is the body to escalate a consumer-rights dispute to if the installer won't engage.

Technical context

What's different about a GivEnergy system installed in Ireland?

An Irish GivEnergy install runs to Irish grid rules, not the UK G98/G99 framework. The relevant standard is EN 50549-1 on a nominal 230 V supply, and the connection is registered with ESB Networks — the NC6 notification covers micro-generation up to 25 A per phase, with the NC7 process for anything larger. That changes the over-voltage and frequency setpoints your inverter trips on, and it changes who you talk to when the grid is the problem.

It also changes how you get paid for export. Ireland uses the Clean Export Guarantee (CEG), mandated by the CRU — your electricity supplier pays you for units exported to the grid, the Irish equivalent of the UK's Smart Export Guarantee. If your export readings look wrong in the app, it's worth confirming the inverter is exporting correctly before assuming the CEG payment is the issue.

Many Irish systems were also part-funded through SEAI grants and installed by a Safe Electric (RECI) registered contractor — which matters when you need physical work done, because the connection sign-off has to come from a registered electrician.

What I'm seeing this month

The most common GivEnergy faults right now

These are the recurring patterns from orphaned GivEnergy diagnostics this month. The fault mechanism is the same wherever the system is installed; only the resolution path varies by jurisdiction.

Red status light, battery offline

The most common single symptom right now. Caused by failed firmware updates, BMS comms timeouts, or charge-cycle imbalance. Often recoverable with a controlled power-cycle and an in-app re-pair. See our GivEnergy red status light page for the full diagnostic.

BMS communication fault

CAN-bus comms between battery modules drop. Symptom: app shows 0% or stale SoC. Often a single failed module rather than a system-wide fault — diagnosable from the event log via the app. See battery not charging for the full diagnostic.

Grid over-voltage trip

Inverter trips when local grid voltage exceeds the EN 50549-1 ceiling. In Ireland this routes to ESB Networks for a voltage check — they're obliged to keep you inside statutory limits. Common around midday on sunny days in PV-dense estates and rural spurs.

EPS / backup-power not working

Anti-islanding logic disconnects EPS during the grid-loss test. Common where the backup load contactor was wired but never fully commissioned. Often a configuration fix, not a hardware fault. See click of death if the BMS audibly clicks during the fault.

App shows offline but battery still working

Wi-Fi dongle disconnected or cloud-account token expired. The hardware is fine; the cloud bridge dropped. See portal offline for the recovery procedure — fixable from your end without an engineer in most cases.

What I can and can't do

Can a UK engineer actually fix my Irish system?

Yes — for diagnostic and configuration work. No — for anything that needs hands inside the inverter. The clean line is: anything that runs through the app, the cloud, or your monitoring data, I can do remotely from Yorkshire. Anything that needs the cover off the unit needs a Safe Electric registered electrician in Ireland.

What I can do remotely
  • · Pull and read your event log + fault history
  • · Diagnose root cause from monitoring data
  • · Configuration changes via app / portal
  • · Firmware re-pair, factory reset, account migration
  • · Charge / discharge schedule + export-limit checks
  • · Grid over-voltage evidence pack for ESB Networks
  • · Written engineer report for your installer or insurer
What needs an Irish Safe Electric installer
  • · Anything inside the inverter enclosure
  • · Physical battery module swap or replacement
  • · Anti-islanding / EPS recommissioning
  • · New EN 50549-1 commissioning
  • · ESB Networks connection paperwork
  • · Anything needing a registered-electrician sign-off

When the work is split — diagnostic from me, physical from your local electrician — I write the engineer report so your Safe Electric installer has a clear specification to quote against. That's usually faster and cheaper than paying for diagnosis and repair as two separate call-outs.

How it works

How a remote diagnostic works from Ireland

Ireland is on the same clock as the UK, so there's none of the timezone juggling — we book a normal daytime or early-evening slot. A typical diagnostic finishes inside a single 30-minute session.

01
Book and share access (10 min before)

Send me your GivEnergy app login or read-only access plus the symptom in a sentence. I review your event log before the call.

02
Live video call (20–30 min)

We walk through the inverter LCD, screenshot the relevant settings, and I confirm the diagnosis on screen with you.

03
Configuration fix (in-session if possible)

If the fix is in the app or portal, I do it during the call — that's the £75 (about €90), and only if it works. If it needs a Safe Electric installer, I draft the spec.

04
Written engineer report (same day)

PDF in your inbox: the diagnosis, the fix, the parts list (if relevant), and a specification your local installer can quote against.

Pricing

What it costs

The remote diagnostic is free to begin. You only pay if I actually fix your fault remotely — no fix, no fee. Billing is in GBP through Stripe; the euro figure is indicative and your card provider applies its own rate.

Remote diagnostic
Free

Fault diagnosed in 30 minutes, written report included. £75 (about €90) only if I fix it remotely — nothing if I can't. No fix, no fee.

Written engineer report
Free

Independent written report — diagnosis, fix specification, parts list. Suitable for your installer, your insurer, or ESB Networks to act on.

Physical repairs in Ireland are carried out by your local Safe Electric registered electrician, who quotes separately for any hands-on work — my report gives them the exact specification so they're not paying me to diagnose it twice.

About

About Ron — who's actually doing this

I'm Ronald Vitova. BEng Electronic Engineering. I've spent 15+ years on solar PV and battery storage systems and run Solar Tech Support from Yorkshire in the UK. Since the GivEnergy administration on 9 April I've been the most active independent voice publishing technical guidance and diagnostics for orphaned GivEnergy owners.

I'm based in the UK and work UK hours — which, for Ireland, is simply the same hours you keep. Same language, same timezone, and a GivEnergy diagnostic depth that's hard to find on either island right now. If you want a real engineer at the other end of a video call rather than a chatbot, that's what this is.

If we need physical work in Ireland, I refer to a Safe Electric registered installer and write the spec for them. I have no commercial relationship with any Irish installer — independent advice means independent.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

There's no GivEnergy support team operating in Ireland. GivEnergy Ltd — the UK manufacturer that supplied the Irish market — entered administration on 9 April 2026, and there's no separate Irish entity. The hardware and the app (run by a separate Software Ltd company) continue to work. Independent engineers like me handle diagnostics remotely.
No. Battery and inverter hardware operate independently of the manufacturer's existence. The BMS, the cell chemistry, the firmware already on the unit — all keep doing what they were doing. You've lost future warranty support and manufacturer firmware updates, but the system you have keeps running.
Yes. GivEnergy Software Ltd runs the app and givenergy.cloud — a separate legal entity that wasn't part of the administration and is still trading. Existing Irish accounts continue to function, though Software Ltd is moving to a paid cloud model. If you don't pay the eventual subscription you may lose remote access, but local Wi-Fi access to the inverter stays.
The manufacturer warranty is effectively gone — the administrator has confirmed it won't honour further hardware warranties. Your remaining route is Irish and EU consumer law: under the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980 and the Consumer Rights Act 2022, your statutory rights run against the retailer or installer who sold you the system, not GivEnergy. The CCPC is the body to escalate to if the installer won't engage.
For diagnostic and configuration work — yes, fully. Anything via app, cloud, or monitoring data I do from Yorkshire. For physical work (cover off the inverter, module swaps, EPS recommissioning) you need a Safe Electric registered electrician in Ireland. The usual split: a 30-minute remote diagnostic from me, then a written specification for your local installer to quote against.
Grid over-voltage trips route to ESB Networks. Your inverter is set to the EN 50549-1 over-voltage limits used in Ireland on a 230 V nominal supply. If local grid voltage is consistently high — common in rural spurs and PV-dense estates around midday — ESB Networks is obliged to keep you within statutory limits. I confirm the pattern from your event log first so you have the evidence to raise it.
Free to enquire — the remote diagnostic and written report cost nothing. You only pay £75 (about €90) if I identify and fix your fault remotely; if I can't, you pay nothing and keep the report for your installer or ESB Networks. Billing is in GBP through Stripe; your card provider applies its own euro rate. No fix, no fee.
Most Irish GivEnergy diagnoses finish inside a single 30-minute session. Ireland is on the same clock as the UK, so there's no timezone gap — we book a normal daytime or early-evening slot. You share monitoring access before the call, we walk through the inverter LCD and event log together on video, and the written report is in your inbox the same day.

Irish GivEnergy owner needing remote help?

Free 30-minute remote diagnostic — £75 (about €90) only if I fix it. No fix, no fee. Written engineer report delivered the same day, ready for your Safe Electric installer or ESB Networks. Same timezone, plain English.

By submitting you agree to be contacted about your diagnostic request. We don't share your data with 3rd parties.
