My GivEnergy solar and battery system is failing intermittently, GivEnergy is in administration and so is my installer, so it was a relief to get Ron’s expert advice.

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

Our SolarEdge PV system with LG batteries had its first hiccup after 8 years of hard work. The Inverter failed. Fortunately I found Solar-Tech-Support who diagnosed the problem very quickly, ordered a replacement unit and fitted it shortly after we received the unit from SolarEdge. Very thorough and professional approach. Thank you, a solid 5 star recommendation.

I've spoken to Ron a couple of times with issues with my Givenergy installation. Such a friendly knowledge guy very highly recommended. Thank you very much for resolving my issues

My 90-year-old father-in-law had a solar system installed nearly three years ago that never worked properly and kept tripping out. Neither the original installer nor GivEnergy could resolve the issues, and we were even pushed towards replacing the system entirely when GivEnergy went bust. I contacted Ron at Solar Tech Support via WhatsApp, and within a few hours he had diagnosed multiple faults — including incorrect wiring that posed a potential fire risk. He carried out a home visit in Nottingham for £295 (including parts), fixed everything, completed firmware updates, and ensured the system was fully operational. Since then, it has worked perfectly. Ron was knowledgeable, responsive, and took the time to explain everything clearly. Highly recommended — excellent value and complete peace of mind.

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration. So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

What actually goes wrong with Victron kit

Victron kit rarely fails as hardware. What fails is the conversation between the parts. The most common job we see is a MultiPlus that has stopped charging, and it is nearly always a settings or communication problem: wrong charge voltages in VEConfigure, an AC input limit set too low, or the battery BMS pulling the charge current limit to zero through DVCC.

Communication faults are the other big group. VE.Bus errors take the whole inverter-charger down and usually trace back to a poor RJ-45 cable or a firmware mismatch between units. CAN bus dropouts between a Pylontech, BYD or Dyness battery and the Cerbo GX leave the system safe but idle. Add seasonal MPPT Error 33 trips from cold-weather string voltage, overload shutdowns on off-grid systems, generator auto-start that never fires, and VRM dropping offline through weak WiFi at the GX device.

The good news is Victron exposes nearly everything in VRM and VictronConnect, so we read the alarm history and the live DVCC limits before anyone touches a screwdriver. Pick the fault below that matches yours, or get in touch and we will track it down.

FAQ

Victron fault questions answered

It is usually configuration, not a broken charger. The common causes are wrong absorption or float voltages in VEConfigure, an AC input current limit set so low there is no headroom left for charging, or the battery BMS blocking charge through DVCC. If the BMS sends a charge current limit of zero, often from low-temperature protection on lithium cells or a CAN bus cable fault, the MultiPlus obeys it and sits idle. A VE.Bus error will also lock out the charger until it is cleared.
Most of the time, yes. Victron systems show nearly everything through VRM, and charge parameters can be adjusted with remote VEConfigure, so faults like wrong charge voltages, DVCC settings, generator start thresholds, AC input limits and frequency acceptance windows can be diagnosed and corrected without a visit. What we cannot do remotely is physical work: replacing a damaged RJ-45 or CAN bus cable, rewiring a generator relay, or reconfiguring PV strings that trip MPPT Error 33. For those you get a clear scope and quote first.
Diagnosis is free. We look at your VRM data, alarm history and configuration, work out what has gone wrong, and tell you straight what it will take to put right. If it is something we can sort remotely, a fix is from £75 on a no fix, no fee basis, so you pay nothing if we cannot resolve it. On-site work such as cable replacement or relay wiring gets a clear scope and quote before you commit to anything.
