I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

I work for a Solar Company and had a customer with a GivEnergy system that we are not versed in. Ron took the time to explain the issues my customer was having and between us managed to rectify the issues. 10 Stars ... Thanks again STS

A superb service from Ron who went beyond the normal service received from other Tech support companies. I live abroad and was badly let down when my givenergy system failed (and the company went bankrupt) and the local supplier ran away from the problem. Ron sorted the problem and even accessed specialist coding for the inverter that would not be available for suppliers. Ron also ran a full diagnostic to insure that all was in good working order afterwards. Without Rons support and patient assistance I doubt I would ever have got the system back up and running. Well done and thankyou and you have a customer for the future.

Ronald was great to help me sort out my giv energy inverter issue since company has gone bankrupt in april 26.

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Brilliant support to get my solar battery working again. I didn’t expect help on a Saturday but Ron answered the phone, listened and sent me the information I needed to get it going, answered questions etc. A brilliant service I’d happily recommend.

Setting up a Victron system the right way

Victron is not a single-box brand. There is no setup wizard that does it all in ten minutes. The inverter-charger, the MPPT controller, the battery monitor and the Cerbo GX are separate products that each need configuring and then integrating, which is exactly why so many systems end up half-commissioned. The two jobs that catch people out are commissioning a MultiPlus-II for a UK grid-connected ESS, and getting VictronConnect and VRM monitoring working from scratch.

On the MultiPlus-II the order matters. You set the country code and AC input limit in VEConfigure, add the ESS assistant (without it the unit just passes grid through and never charges the battery from solar), select the right UK grid code (G98 up to 3.68kW, G99 above that or three-phase), then enable DVCC on the Cerbo GX so the battery BMS controls the charge limits. Skip a step and the system underperforms or refuses to charge. The monitoring side has its own snags: VictronConnect Bluetooth only allows one connection at a time and cannot install assistants, the Cerbo GX WiFi antenna is weak so Ethernet is far more reliable, and VRM only works with a GX device claimed to your account by its portal ID.

Because Victron exposes nearly everything through VEConfigure and the VRM remote console, most of this can be done with us guiding you, no installer visit required. The remote diagnostic is free, remote setup and corrections are from £75 on a no fix, no fee basis, and where a job genuinely needs hands on site, such as an MK3-USB firmware recovery, it is quoted before anything is booked.

FAQ

Victron setup questions answered

Yes, for any UK grid-connected battery system. The ESS assistant is a software module you add in VEConfigure under the Assistants tab, and without it the MultiPlus-II only runs in passthrough or off-grid mode: it will not charge the battery from solar or discharge to offset your household consumption. During installation it asks for a grid setpoint (50W is standard for self-consumption) and whether grid feed-in is allowed (enable it if you have an export tariff and your DNO permits export). It cannot be edited later, so if you need to change a setting you re-run the assistant from scratch. We can talk you through the whole sequence remotely, or do it for you via the VRM remote console, from £75.
Often, yes. For VRM you need a GX device (Cerbo GX, Venus GX or Cerbo-S GX) connected to the internet, ideally by Ethernet rather than the weak internal WiFi, then you claim the installation on vrm.victronenergy.com using the portal ID printed on the device. Once that is done and remote console is enabled, we can configure the system through VRM without an MK3-USB adapter at all. The adapter is only essential for installing the ESS assistant on a MultiPlus-II when there is no GX device online yet, or for recovering a unit after a failed firmware update. We diagnose what you actually need first, free of charge.
The remote diagnostic is free. Tell us your hardware (MultiPlus model, MPPT, GX device and battery brand) and where you have got stuck, and we tell you exactly what is left to configure at no charge. If it is something we can do remotely, VEConfigure parameters, the ESS assistant, grid code selection, DVCC, VictronConnect pairing, firmware updates or VRM registration, the work is from £75 on a no fix, no fee basis. The only things that need someone on site are physical, such as an MK3-USB firmware recovery or Ethernet cabling to the Cerbo GX, and on-site visits start from £245 and are always quoted before anything is booked.
