Solis Not Exporting — Export Limit, CT Clamp & G98 Configuration

Your Solis inverter is generating power but nothing is going to the grid. The three most common causes are a zero export limit in SolisCloud, a reversed CT clamp, or wrong G98/G99 grid code settings. This guide walks through each one.

STS were incredibly responsive and helpful In diagnosing an issue with my GivEnergy inverter. Although distance meant it was impractical for me to use them to fully solve the issue, I’m grateful for the help and detail they provided. Don is a real professional gent and a hero in my eyes.

Adam Miller · Jun 2026 Google

Thank you for your diligence. On this occasion the battery was able to be saved but they have given a route to hopefully arrange a repair from the manufacturer.

David Bateman · Jun 2026 Google

Amazing support, went out of his way to help try and get us back up and running

Paul Smith · May 2026

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Keith Ballard · Apr 2026

Brilliant support to get my solar battery working again. I didn’t expect help on a Saturday but Ron answered the phone, listened and sent me the information I needed to get it going, answered questions etc. A brilliant service I’d happily recommend.

Key point: A Solis inverter that generates but does not export is almost always a configuration issue — not a hardware fault. The export limit setting, CT clamp direction, and grid code are the three things to check. All three can be diagnosed remotely using SolisCloud data.

Diagnostics

5-step no-export diagnostic

Work through these steps in order. The first two cover the most common causes — most no-export issues are resolved at step 2 or step 3.

1

Confirm the inverter is generating but not exporting

Open SolisCloud (soliscloud.com or the app) and check two readings on the live dashboard:

Generation power (PV power) — what the solar panels are producing right now
Grid export power — what is being pushed to the grid

If generation is positive (e.g. 2.5kW) but export shows zero or near-zero, you have a confirmed no-export condition. The inverter is producing solar power but is not sending it to the grid.

Not generating at all? That is a different fault. See system not producing instead.
2

Check the export limit setting in SolisCloud

This is the most common cause of Solis no-export. The export limit tells the inverter the maximum power it is allowed to send to the grid. If set to zero, no export occurs.

1. Log into SolisCloud → navigate to your inverter → Settings or Advanced Settings.
2. Find "Export Limit" or "Power Control" — exact menu name varies by firmware version.
3. Check the export limit value. If it reads 0W or 0%, this is your problem.
4. Set to your permitted value:
• G98 systems (≤3.68kW): set to 3680W
• G99 systems (>3.68kW): set to your DNO-approved limit
• If unsure, check your MCS certificate or DNO acceptance letter

Some export limit settings require installer-level access. If you cannot change the setting yourself, STS can adjust it remotely.

3

Verify the CT clamp is installed correctly

The CT (Current Transformer) clamp sits on your main AC cable and tells the inverter how much power is flowing to and from the grid. If installed backwards, everything inverts:

Correct installation

Arrow on CT clamp points towards the grid (away from your home). Inverter reads export correctly and manages power flow.

Reversed installation

Arrow points towards your home. Inverter reads import as export — thinks it is already exporting and blocks further export.

How to check remotely: Wait for a sunny period when household consumption is low. If SolisCloud shows high import when it should show export, the CT clamp is likely reversed.

Physical correction requires safe access to the main AC wiring — a qualified engineer should flip the clamp.

4

Check G98/G99 grid code configuration

Solis inverters must be set to the correct UK grid code. Wrong settings can cause the inverter to restrict or block export:

In SolisCloud: Navigate to inverter settings → Grid Code or Country Code section.
Verify the code is set to: UK G98 (systems ≤3.68kW per phase) or UK G99 (larger systems).
Common errors: Factory default left on (wrong country), previous installer set wrong code, firmware update reset the value.

Grid code changes typically require installer-level SolisCloud access.

5

Check if the generation meter is registering export

Sometimes the inverter is exporting, but the metering is wrong. If SolisCloud shows export but your energy supplier does not record it:

Check your smart meter — does it show export units accumulating?
Check the MCS generation meter — is it counting kWh?
Check your SEG tariff — is the Smart Export Guarantee tariff active with your supplier?

If the inverter is exporting (confirmed in SolisCloud) but the meter is not recording it, the issue is meter configuration — not the inverter. Contact your energy supplier about the meter setup.

Why Solis systems stop exporting — and how it gets missed

The most common scenario we see is a Solis system that was installed correctly but had its export limit set to zero during commissioning — either deliberately (to comply with a DNO restriction that has since been lifted) or accidentally (factory default left unchanged). The homeowner only notices months later when they realise their Smart Export Guarantee payments have stopped or their electricity bills haven't dropped as expected.

The second scenario is a CT clamp installed the wrong way round. This is an installation error that causes the inverter to misread grid flow. The inverter thinks the house is importing heavily when it is actually exporting, so it restricts output to avoid exceeding what it believes is the export limit. The result is zero or near-zero export even on sunny days with low household consumption.

Both issues are diagnosable remotely using SolisCloud monitoring data. STS reviews your inverter settings, export limit configuration, CT clamp readings, and grid code parameters as part of a standard remote diagnostic. If the CT clamp needs physically flipping, we confirm the diagnosis remotely and arrange an on-site visit to correct it.

FAQ

Solis no export — common questions

The three most common causes are: the export limit in SolisCloud is set to zero, the CT clamp is installed backwards, or the G98/G99 grid code configuration is wrong. All three are configuration issues — the inverter hardware is usually working correctly. STS diagnoses these remotely using SolisCloud data and inverter settings review.
Log into SolisCloud and navigate to your inverter's settings. Find the Export Limit or Power Control section and set it to your permitted value — typically 3680W for G98 domestic systems. Some settings require installer-level access. If you cannot change the setting yourself, book a remote diagnostic and STS can adjust it for you.
Check SolisCloud when the sun is shining and household consumption is low. If SolisCloud shows high import when it should show export, the CT clamp is likely reversed. The arrow on the clamp body should point towards the grid, away from your consumer unit. A reversed clamp causes the inverter to block export because it thinks you are already exporting.
In most cases, yes. Export limit settings and grid code configuration can be checked and corrected remotely through SolisCloud. If the problem is a reversed CT clamp, we confirm the diagnosis remotely using monitoring data, but the physical correction needs someone on site. STS provides both remote diagnostics and on-site visits across the UK.
G98 applies to installations up to 3.68kW per phase — these can connect without prior DNO approval. G99 applies to larger systems and requires formal application. The grid code setting determines voltage and frequency protection limits. Using the wrong code can cause the inverter to restrict export or disconnect unnecessarily. See our G98 vs G99 guide for the full explanation.
The remote diagnostic is free. Most no-export cases are a SolisCloud setting — a zero export limit or the wrong grid code — and if we can put it right remotely it's £75, you only pay if we fix it. A reversed CT clamp needs someone on site to physically flip it, quoted first, from £245.
Usually the same day. We read your SolisCloud settings, export limit, grid code, and CT clamp data in a 30-minute remote session, correct what's wrong, and confirm export is flowing — with a written summary straight after the call.
