My 90-year-old father-in-law had a solar system installed nearly three years ago that never worked properly and kept tripping out. Neither the original installer nor GivEnergy could resolve the issues, and we were even pushed towards replacing the system entirely when GivEnergy went bust. I contacted Ron at Solar Tech Support via WhatsApp, and within a few hours he had diagnosed multiple faults — including incorrect wiring that posed a potential fire risk. He carried out a home visit in Nottingham for £295 (including parts), fixed everything, completed firmware updates, and ensured the system was fully operational. Since then, it has worked perfectly. Ron was knowledgeable, responsive, and took the time to explain everything clearly. Highly recommended — excellent value and complete peace of mind.

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

A really big thank you to Ron and his team, he has vast amounts of knowledge and got my system back up and running, also good to get on with. I was absolutely lost as to know what to do, no help from installer and somehow came across Ron and am I glad I did. I would definitely definitely recommend him to anyone who has faults with there solar system, any make I would say. Thanks again Ron a pleasure meeting you.

Absolutely wonderful support. I have a GivEnergy system that was installed in 2022, and a firmware update was flagged in the app, so I proceeded to update the software .... and immediately regretted it, as my inverter came up with an error, and was not working at all! With no GivEnergy support available, and my installer saying there was nothing he could do, I googled help, and found Ron. What a stroke of good luck! Submitted an on line enquiry late morning, and received phone call just after 5 pm, and later that evening Ron was able to supply me with old firmware no longer available on the GivEnergy web site. I was then able to update the firmware using a GivEnergy youtube video as reference, and hey presto the system was back up and running. One further slight adjustment by Ron and we are back normal. What a relief. I have no hesitation in recommending Solar Tech Support if you have a problem. Great service! And if you are a GivEnergy system owner, whatever you do, DO NOT UPDATE FIRMWARE!

What goes wrong on Enphase systems

Most Enphase faults we see are monitoring faults, not generation faults. There are two communication links that can break: the Envoy gateway talking to the Enlighten cloud over your internet, and the microinverters talking to the Envoy over the AC wiring. Working out which link has dropped is most of the diagnosis.

If the whole production graph has holes in it, the Envoy has lost its internet connection. A router swap, a changed WiFi password or a weak signal in the loft are the usual causes, and because the Envoy only buffers seven days of data locally, a long outage means lost history. Our monitoring gap guide covers the checks in order.

If one panel sits grey while the rest report fine, the fault is at that panel: a failed microinverter, a tripped branch circuit breaker, or powerline interference blocking the signal. A monitoring gap costs you data, not power, but a grey panel can mean real lost output, so it is worth checking promptly. The panel not reporting guide shows how to narrow it down before anyone goes near the roof.

FAQ

Enphase fault questions answered

Look at the pattern in Enlighten. If every panel shows the same missing data for the same period, the Envoy has lost its internet connection and the microinverters are fine. If the Envoy is online and one panel sits grey while the others report normally, the fault is at that panel: the microinverter itself, its branch circuit breaker, or the powerline signal back to the Envoy. A cluster of grey panels usually means a tripped breaker on that branch circuit, because Enphase microinverters are wired in groups.
The communication faults usually can. Envoy connectivity, WiFi reconfiguration after a router change, firmware problems and powerline interference can often be resolved from your Enlighten data and Envoy logs without a site visit. A failed microinverter cannot: they are sealed units with no serviceable parts, so a dead one needs physical replacement by an electrician with roof access. Remotely, we confirm the unit has failed and prepare the warranty claim evidence. IQ-series microinverters carry a 25-year warranty that stays valid even if your installer has gone bust.
Nothing. The remote diagnostic is free: we review your Enlighten history and Envoy status, tell you exactly what has failed, and quote before any work is done. If it turns out to be something we cannot fix remotely, like a microinverter that needs replacing under warranty, you pay nothing and you keep the diagnostic findings to take to the manufacturer. No fix, no fee.
