Solarcentury has stepped back from home solar — here's how to keep yours running

Solarcentury was once the UK's biggest solar company — it fitted around 25,000 homes before selling its home-solar business to Sweden's Svea Solar in 2020 and being bought by Statkraft, which retired the brand. The UK residential successor, Svea Solar UK Ltd, was then dissolved in February 2024. So if Solarcentury fitted your panels, there is no one left from that chain to call. Your system is almost certainly fine — here is how to take it over and keep it earning.
  • Panel warranties often survive · we confirm what's still claimable
  • Inverter swaps keep your Feed-in Tariff intact
  • Independent · Yorkshire-based · remote help nationwide

Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

Declan S · Jun 2026

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

Mr P · Jun 2026

My Givenergy battery stopped working nearly a month ago. After unsuccessfully reaching out to my installer, who looks like he's also busted, I found Solar Tech Support on a Google search. They fixed my issue in a couple of hours. Any frustrated Givenergy customers, I highly recommend these guys.

Sarma Amirapu · May 2026

Excellent response to diagnose a problem on our SolarEdge installation. Kept us informed at every step. Diagnosis quickly completed and solution implemented.

Les Bennett · May 2026

Prompt and useful support regarding my Sunsynk system lack of performance. Ronald simplified the technical issues to make them understandable. Many thanks, looking forward to follow up.

Patrick Keenan · May 2026

Amazing support, went out of his way to help try and get us back up and running

Paul Smith · May 2026

What a fantastic service. Had my fault diagnosed within minutes and actually managed to resolve the issue remotely within a few minutes more. This guy is like a “Solar Batman” helping consumers fix their problems using his extensive industry knowledge and expertise. Outstanding service. Thank you so much.

Andrew Palmer · May 2026

Excellent service from Solar Tech Support. Extremely quick to respond, easy to deal with and clearly very talented engineers. They were persistent throughout a complex GivEnergy battery issue and resolved everything completely. Highly knowledgeable, professional and reassuring support from start to finish. Highly recommended.

David Harris · May 2026

Ron responded very promptly regarding my GivEnergy battery issue, his knowledgeable diagnosis was spot on and resolved the issue on first attempt. Would recommend to any and all.

Simon Hill · May 2026

Ron made more sense in 20 mins than our installer has done over the last 12 months There is a jungle out there and you need someone like Ron to give a comprehensive overview and solution

David · May 2026

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Ian · May 2026

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Tony Deacon · May 2026

Contacted Ron with a problem and he sorted it out quickly with no problems at all. Very knowledgeable on anything solar/ batteries. I would recommend him to anyone

Phill · May 2026

I've spoken to Ron a couple of times with issues with my Givenergy installation. Such a friendly knowledge guy very highly recommended. Thank you very much for resolving my issues

michael fairhurst · May 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

Mr Machin · May 2026

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Keith Ballard · Apr 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Hugh Speirs · Apr 2026

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

Christopher · Apr 2026

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration. So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing. If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

I sent a message on their website regarding a problem I have on my Givenergy system. Although not supplied by Ronald, I thought it was worth an email. What actually happened to Solarcentury

Solarcentury was a genuine UK solar pioneer — founded in 1998 by Jeremy Leggett, it grew into the country's largest solar company and put solar on roughly 25,000 homes, including its own C21e solar roof tiles. It did not go bust. What happened is that it left the home-solar market, and the consumer brand was wound down — which is why former customers can no longer find anyone to call.

Public record — Companies House

1 Apr 2020
Home-solar business sold to Svea Solar

Solarcentury's residential installation arm — Solarcentury Microgen (UK) Ltd — was sold to Sweden's Svea Solar and renamed Svea Solar UK Ltd (company 11068740). Solarcentury itself stepped back to focus on large-scale solar farms.

Nov 2020
Statkraft acquires Solarcentury — brand retired

The Norwegian renewables group Statkraft bought Solarcentury for around £118 million. Statkraft develops utility-scale solar, not domestic rooftop aftercare, and the Solarcentury consumer brand was retired. Solar Century Holdings Ltd (03570325) remains active as part of Statkraft.

27 Feb 2024
Svea Solar UK Ltd dissolved

The UK entity that had taken on Solarcentury's residential customers (formerly Solarcentury Microgen UK Ltd, company 11068740) was dissolved at Companies House — so the residential successor is gone too.

ℹ️

What it means for you: there is no Solarcentury to ring, and the residential successor has been dissolved. Your panels, your generation and your Feed-in Tariff are unaffected — but day-to-day support, repairs and ageing-inverter swaps now need an independent engineer.

Your system

What this means for your Solarcentury system

The brand is gone, but your system isn't. Most Solarcentury home installs are now 8–16 years old, so here's what's affected and what isn't.

What you've lost

Installer support and aftercare — gone. There is no Solarcentury, and the residential successor (Svea Solar UK Ltd) was dissolved in 2024. No one from that chain to call for faults or advice.

Workmanship warranty — the original installer cover is effectively gone. If your install came with an insurance-backed guarantee (IBG), check the certificate — IBGs are designed to survive the installer closing.

Original monitoring — early systems often had little or no monitoring, or used a portal that no longer exists. It can usually be added or re-established.

What you still have

Your panels and generation — Solarcentury fitted quality panels; the vast majority are still performing well, and many carry a 10–25 year product and performance warranty that is independent of the installer.

Manufacturer warranties — separate from the installer. Panels are often still covered; string inverters are usually past their 5–12 year term, which is why they're the part that now needs attention.

Your Feed-in Tariff — the FIT accreditation stays with you and your property. A like-for-like inverter swap (same or lower capacity) does not affect it.

MCS registration — permanent and searchable at mcscertified.com, even though the installer has gone.

Recovery path

Five steps to take over your Solarcentury system

Work through these in order. The aim is simple: confirm what you've got, get it generating reliably again, and protect your Feed-in Tariff income.

1
Confirm it was Solarcentury and find your paperwork

Dig out the MCS certificate, Feed-in Tariff registration, and handover pack — they name the installer and list your panel and inverter models. If they're missing, search mcscertified.com by postcode and install date. Our Documentation Recovery guide covers the full process.

2
Get a free remote diagnostic

Before spending anything, find out the real state of the system — is it generating, is there a fault, what's the inverter and monitoring status. A remote diagnostic is free: no fix, no fee. If we can sort it remotely it's a flat £75; if it needs hands-on work we quote that up front.

3
Plan a FIT-safe inverter swap if needed

The ageing string inverter — SMA Sunny Boy, Fronius, Power-One/ABB and similar — is the usual failure point on a Solarcentury-era system. We replace it like-for-like or with a modern equivalent sized to your existing panels, keeping the same or lower capacity so your Feed-in Tariff is unaffected. Inverter replacement starts from £795 including supply, fit and commissioning.

4
Recover monitoring and documentation

If the system had monitoring registered under Solarcentury, it can be claimed into your own account; if it had none, a modern monitoring device can be retrofitted to most inverters. Follow our monitoring recovery guide, and rebuild any missing MCS or FIT paperwork while you're at it.

5
Keep it serviced

An older array benefits from an occasional check — DC isolators (a known weak point on systems of this age), MC4 connectors, mounting, and generation against expected. An independent annual maintenance visit catches problems early and keeps your FIT income flowing. From £195 per year.

How we help

Services for former Solarcentury customers

We support solar systems regardless of who installed them. These are the services most relevant to an ageing Solarcentury system.

Coverage

Wherever Solarcentury fitted you, we can help

Solarcentury installed nationwide, so most of our help for former customers starts with a free remote diagnostic, available anywhere in the UK. For hands-on work — an inverter swap or an on-site inspection — we're based in Yorkshire and cover the surrounding region, and can advise on the rest of the country case by case.

FAQ

Common questions from Solarcentury customers

There is no longer a Solarcentury to call. Solarcentury sold its home-solar (residential) business to Sweden's Svea Solar on 1 April 2020, then the rest of the company was acquired by Statkraft in November 2020 and the Solarcentury brand was retired — Statkraft develops large solar farms and does not provide domestic aftercare. The UK residential entity that took on those customers, Svea Solar UK Ltd (formerly Solarcentury Microgen UK Ltd), was dissolved on 27 February 2024. In practice an independent solar engineer is now your route to repairs, monitoring and warranty help. System recovery →
It depends on the part. The installer workmanship warranty effectively ended when the residential business changed hands and the successor company was dissolved. But your manufacturer warranties are separate and may still be live: solar panels usually carry 10 to 25 year product and performance warranties, so panels on a 2012 to 2018 install are often still covered, while string inverters typically carry 5 to 12 years and have usually expired on older systems. Check the labels and your original paperwork — we can confirm what is still claimable. Warranty claim guide →
Most Solarcentury home systems were fitted in the Feed-in Tariff years with string inverters — SMA Sunny Boy, Fronius, Power-One/ABB and similar — which are now 10 to 15 years old and reaching the end of their service life. When one fails it is usually more sensible to replace the inverter than chase parts for a discontinued unit. We swap it like-for-like, or for a modern equivalent sized to your existing panels, and re-commission so your system generates again — without disturbing your Feed-in Tariff. Inverter replacement →
No — replacing a failed inverter with one of the same or lower AC capacity does not affect your Feed-in Tariff accreditation; you stay on your existing tariff and deemed export. What you must not do is increase the system's capacity, and you should keep the paperwork for both the old and new inverter in case your FIT licensee asks. We document the swap properly so your payments continue uninterrupted. FIT system upgrades →
The remote diagnostic is free — if we can't help, there is nothing to pay. If we fix it remotely (a settings, monitoring or configuration fault) it is a flat £75. Physical work is quoted up front: a string-inverter replacement starts from £795 including supply, fitting and commissioning, and a like-for-like repair is priced after the diagnostic. No fix, no fee on the diagnostic, and you will always have the cost in writing before any work begins. Full pricing →
A remote diagnostic is usually same-day — we will tell you what is wrong the day you get in touch. If the inverter needs replacing, an on-site swap is typically a single half-day visit once the unit is booked in, and your system generates again the same day. Monitoring and documentation recovery run in parallel and do not hold up getting you back online.
Check your original paperwork — the MCS certificate, Feed-in Tariff registration, or handover pack will name the installer. You can also search the MCS database at mcscertified.com by postcode and install date. Solarcentury-branded panels, or the distinctive C21e solar roof tiles they pioneered, are another giveaway. If you are not sure, send us a photo of the inverter and the array and we will identify it. Documentation recovery →

Tell us about your Solarcentury system

Let us know what you've got — roughly when it was installed, the inverter brand if you can see it, whether it's still generating, and what paperwork you have. We'll come back the same day with a clear plan to get it sorted.
