Effective Home has gone into administration — Here's how to keep your system running

Effective Home — the Doncaster-based national installer and British Gas's Hive Solar partner — went into administration on 26 June 2026. The website is down, the phones are unanswered, and customers report abandoned installs and lost deposits. If they fitted your system, it is almost certainly fine — here's how to take it over, sort any faults, and claim what you're owed. If you're waiting on a deposit, some protection windows run out 120 days after you signed, so move now.

Absolutely wonderful support. I have a GivEnergy system that was installed in 2022, and a firmware update was flagged in the app, so I proceeded to update the software .... and immediately regretted it, as my inverter came up with an error, and was not working at all! With no GivEnergy support available, and my installer saying there was nothing he could do, I googled help, and found Ron. What a stroke of good luck! Submitted an on line enquiry late morning, and received phone call just after 5 pm, and later that evening Ron was able to supply me with old firmware no longer available on the GivEnergy web site. I was then able to update the firmware using a GivEnergy youtube video as reference, and hey presto the system was back up and running. One further slight adjustment by Ron and we are back normal. What a relief. I have no hesitation in recommending Solar Tech Support if you have a problem. Great service! And if you are a GivEnergy system owner, whatever you do, DO NOT UPDATE FIRMWARE!

Excellent response to diagnose a problem on our SolarEdge installation. Kept us informed at every step. Diagnosis quickly completed and solution implemented.

Les Bennett · May 2026

Had a fault on a GivEnergy AC coupled 3kW home battery and was getting no joy from multiple companies I contacted, as well as the original installer. Contacted Solar Tech Support and they sorted it really quickly, now working perfectly again, can’t recommend them highly enough, professional and very responsive!

John Jones · Jul 2026 Google

What happened to Effective Home

Effective Home grew from a Doncaster heating firm into a national solar installer — part of the Effective Energy Group, and from 2024 British Gas's Hive Solar installation partner for England and Wales. In June 2026 it went into administration with no public warning to customers. This is the public record from Companies House, the Gazette and the company's own filings.

Public record — Companies House & Gazette

2016–2020
Incorporated as Effective Heating Ltd

Company 10441082 was incorporated on 24 October 2016 as Effective Heating Ltd, renaming to Effective Home Ltd in late 2020 as it moved from heating into solar. It traded from Crompton Business Park, Doncaster, as part of the wider Effective Energy Group (Worksop).

2020–2024
National solar installer

Solar PV, battery storage (Sunsynk, Tesla Powerwall, SolaX among others), EV chargers, heat pumps and ECO grant work across England and Wales, sold directly and through referral channels including EDF, Halifax and Age Partnership. Over 3,000 Trustpilot reviews, rated "Excellent" before the collapse.

Aug 2024
British Gas Hive Solar partner

Effective Home became British Gas's exclusive Hive Solar installer for England and Wales — so many customers who "bought solar from British Gas" actually had an Effective Home installation.

FY 2025
The accounts turn

Filed accounts show turnover falling from £27.8m to £22.7m and net liabilities beyond £5.6m; in early 2026 the company extended its accounting period — often a distress signal.

26 Jun 2026
Administration

Effective Home Ltd entered administration (High Court, case 005043 of 2026). Joint administrators Simon Knight and Syed Aziz of Jeremy Knight & Co, Brighton, were appointed; Companies House lists the company as In Administration. The website went down, and customers report unanswered phones, abandoned installs and lost deposits. The parent company, Effective Energy Group Ltd, was not placed in administration and remains active.

Time matters if you're owed money: HIES deposit protection only runs for 120 days from the date you signed your contract, and debit-card chargebacks run on a 120-day clock from the missed install date. If you signed in spring 2026, start your claims now — waiting for the administration to play out can cost you the protected routes.

Your system

What this means for your Effective Home system

Almost all Effective Home installs are recent — modern panels with a battery. The company is gone; your system isn't. Here's what's affected and what isn't.

What you've lost

Aftercare and servicing — the support line, the servicing arm, and any promised "effective aftercare" ended with the administration. There is no one at the company to fix or maintain your system.

The 2-year workmanship warranty — Effective Home's own workmanship cover died with the company, unless it was insurance-backed. As a HIES member their workmanship warranties carried HIES Consumer Code protection — dig out the certificate; the insurer named on it is who you claim from now.

Unfinished installs and deposits — customers report installs abandoned mid-job and deposits the administrators say are lost. Those are claims against your card provider, your finance company, or HIES deposit protection — not against the dead company.

What you still have

Your panels, battery and generation — an installed, signed-off system keeps working exactly as before; the company closing switches nothing off.

Manufacturer warranties — separate from the installer and usually long: panels typically carry 25-year product/performance cover, and Sunsynk, Tesla and SolaX battery warranties (commonly 10 years) are claimed directly with the manufacturer.

Your export payments — SEG sits with your energy supplier, not the installer, and continues untouched.

MCS registration — permanent and recoverable via the MCS helpdesk even though the installer has gone.

The Energy Shield special case: if you're on Effective Home's solar subscription, the panels on your roof belong to the company, not you — which now means they're assets in the administration, and the fate of the lease and tariff isn't yet public. Don't remove or alter the equipment, and get the administrators' position in writing before agreeing anything with anyone. We can still inspect and keep the system safe and running while ownership is resolved.

Recovery path

What to do if Effective Home was your installer

Work through these in order. The aim: recover any money you're owed before the windows close, confirm what you've got, and get the system running reliably in your own name.

1
Owed money? Start every claim now — the clocks are running

Credit card involved (even just the deposit)? Raise a Section 75 claim with the card provider — it covers the whole contract between £100 and £30,000. Debit card? Ask your bank for a chargeback — 120 days from the missed install. Check your paperwork for HIES deposit protection — up to 25% of the contract (max £5,000), but only 120 days from signing. On finance? The lender shares liability — complain to them in writing. Registering as a creditor with the administrators (Jeremy Knight & Co, Brighton) is worth doing but is the last resort, not the plan.

2
Find your paperwork — and know it may be incomplete

Effective Home's terms only released the full handover pack (warranties, certificates) after final payment — so if your install was recent or contested, you may never have received it. Search mcscertified.com for your MCS certificate; the MCS helpdesk can reissue it to the homeowner. Our Documentation Recovery guide covers the rest — DNO records included.

3
Get a free remote diagnostic

Before spending anything, find out the real state of the system — generating properly, battery charging and discharging, monitoring healthy, settings right for your tariff. A remote diagnostic is free: no fix, no fee. A remote fix is a flat £95; anything hands-on is quoted in writing first.

4
Move monitoring into your name and check the warranties

If your Sunsynk Connect, Tesla, SolaX Cloud, GivEnergy or SolarEdge account was set up under the installer, we transfer it to your own homeowner login — the monitoring recovery guide covers every brand. At the same time we confirm what's still under manufacturer warranty — on installs this recent, the battery and inverter almost always are.

5
Take over the system and keep it serviced

Once it's running, an occasional check keeps it that way — battery health and firmware, settings against your tariff, connections and generation against expected. An independent system recovery gives you a written condition report and a clean handover into your own name — particularly worth it if your install was never properly handed over.

FAQ

Common questions from Effective Home customers

There is no aftercare team left to call. Effective Home Ltd (company 10441082) entered administration on 26 June 2026 and joint administrators from Jeremy Knight & Co were appointed; the effectivehome.co.uk website is down and customers report the phone line is unanswered. For anything about money you're owed, the administrators are the formal contact. For keeping your actual system running — faults, settings, monitoring, warranties — an independent solar engineer is now the practical route. The system itself is unaffected by the company failing. System recovery →
Act quickly, and don't rely on the administration. The three routes that actually pay out: a Section 75 claim through your credit-card provider if any part was paid by credit card and the contract price is between £100 and £30,000 — even a small credit-card deposit protects the whole contract; a chargeback through your bank for debit-card payments, which runs on a 120-day clock from when the install was due; and HIES deposit protection, which covers up to 25% of the contract value (max £5,000) but only for 120 days from the date you signed — if you signed in spring 2026 that window is closing now. You can also register as a creditor with the administrators, but treat that as a last resort: unsecured customers rarely recover much.
Two different things were sold as one. The 25-year figure in the sales material is the manufacturer product and performance cover on the panels and mounting — that survives, because it sits with the maker, not the installer. Effective Home's own workmanship warranty was 2 years, and it died with the company unless it was insurance-backed — as a HIES member their workmanship warranties were protected under the HIES Consumer Code, so find your HIES or insurance-backed guarantee certificate and claim directly with the insurer named on it. Battery and inverter warranties (Sunsynk, Tesla, SolaX and others) are manufacturer warranties too and are claimed direct. Warranty claim guide →
It can, significantly. Effective Home was British Gas's Hive Solar installation partner for England and Wales, and also took referrals through EDF, Halifax and other channels. Check whose name is on your contract and invoices. If your contract is with British Gas or another solvent company, your consumer-rights claim sits with them, not with the failed installer. If you paid on finance arranged through Effective Home, the finance company shares legal responsibility for the installation under Section 75 — complain to the lender in writing, and don't simply cancel the direct debit.
Most Effective Home systems are recent — solar with a Sunsynk, Tesla Powerwall or SolaX battery, some with GivEnergy or SolarEdge — so faults are usually fixable once properly diagnosed. Many are configuration, monitoring or settings issues we resolve remotely; hardware faults are quoted in writing before any work. We're independent and work across all of these brands, and because Effective Home was based in Doncaster, a large share of its customers are in our on-site patch — South Yorkshire and the surrounding region. Free remote diagnostic →
Energy Shield customers are in a genuinely different position: under that product Effective Home kept ownership of the panels on your roof and sold you the electricity, so those panels are now assets in the administration. What happens to the lease and the hardware is not yet public. Don't remove or alter the equipment, don't sign anything new until the position is clear, and ask the administrators for their position in writing. Keep every document. Once ownership is resolved we can inspect, service or take over the running of the system whoever ends up owning it.
The remote diagnostic is free — no fix, no fee. If we fix it remotely (settings, monitoring or configuration) it's a flat £95. Physical work is quoted up front: on-site repairs start from £295 and a string-inverter replacement from £995 including supply, fitting and commissioning; battery and hybrid work is priced after the diagnostic. Effective Home's home town is our patch — we're Yorkshire based, so Doncaster, Sheffield, Barnsley and the surrounding area get on-site slots quickly, and remote help covers the rest of England and Wales.
