A SolarEdge production fault, a warranty swap and a wall worth admiring

A decade-old premium SolarEdge and LG Chem system threw a production fault on one inverter. We arranged the warranty replacement, swapped the faulty unit, and reconfigured the newer inverter to talk to the existing kit — back up and running in a few hours.

SolarEdge showing a production fault?

A production fault usually means one inverter, not the whole system — and SolarEdge inverters are often still under warranty years later. We check the warranty, arrange the replacement, and handle the swap and re-commissioning.

When my GivEnergy battery started playing up it became basically useless and several companies I called said they couldn’t help. Solar Tech Support really knew their stuff, communicated very well and resolved the problem quickly. Without them I’d have had to buy a replacement battery.

After recently changing my fuse board the ct clamp broke, this meant my inverter was not communicating properly with my GivEnergy system. After several people letting me down, finally got put in touch with Ron. He came out within 24hours & resolved the fault within an hour, no fuse just got on with it. Work was tidy & arrived when he said he would. Ron followed up a few days later to confirm all was still good, great service from all involved.

Absolutely amazing service. Ive had a couple of issues with my Givenergy system and couldn't manage to get in touch with Givenergy after they went bust. So I was searching on Google and came across Rons number. I sent Ron a WhatsApp message and got a prompt reply and he resolved the problem I had with my system. I can't recommend Ron enough its not often you get such a good service in this day and age. If you are experiencing issues with your solar system Ron is the man to contact.

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Fantastic service, I would highly recommend. From first contact my solar issue was resolved within 2 days. Wouldn't use anyone else.

A simple one — but one worth talking about. A customer got in touch with a SolarEdge system showing a production fault. The inverter was still under warranty, so the fix was straightforward: arrange the replacement, get it sent to site, and swap it over. Then we turned up to a wall worth admiring.

The enquiry was about as clean as they come: a SolarEdge system flagging a production fault. No drama — the inverter was still inside its warranty, so we sorted the warranty replacement, had it shipped to site, and quoted to come and carry out the swap. The customer accepted, and we booked it in.

A wall worth admiring

It’s not every day you walk into a plant room and find a full wall of SolarEdge inverters and LG Chem batteries. If you’d bought a solar system ten years ago and said “give me the best,” this is exactly what you’d have been given. A decade on, it’s still premium kit — and still earning its keep.

A garage plant room with a wall of SolarEdge inverters and two LG Chem battery units mounted on a block wall, alongside the consumer unit, isolators and meter — a premium solar-plus-storage system installed about ten years ago.
The wall: SolarEdge inverters and LG Chem batteries, installed around a decade ago. Buy quality and it lasts — one inverter aside, the rest was still healthy and stayed exactly where it was.

Not quite plug-and-play

Here’s where a “simple inverter swap” earns its fee. Ten years on, the exact original inverter is long discontinued, so the warranty replacement SolarEdge supplies is the current-generation equivalent — a different unit to the one coming off the wall. The newer inverter wires up differently and communicates differently, and this kind of older equipment is rare enough that there’s no muscle-memory to fall back on.

So it took some communications re-wiring, a fair bit of head-scratching, and — credit where it’s due — a hand from a friend of mine who works at SolarEdge, without whom I think we’d still be stood in that garage scratching our heads now. Between us we got the new inverter talking to the existing power optimisers and the rest of the system the way it needed to.

Back up and running

A few hours later the customer was re-commissioned and back online, with a routine battery firmware update scheduled to keep everything current. Only the one faulty inverter was replaced — the other inverter and both LG Chem batteries were perfectly healthy and stayed put. And with that, the customer was back to enjoying the benefit of their free electricity.

The takeaway

Nothing complicated about this one — it really was just an inverter swap. But two things are worth saying. First: a production fault on a SolarEdge system usually means one inverter, not a write-off, and it’s very often still under warranty years later — so check before you let anyone sell you a whole new system. Second: buy quality and it lasts. A decade on, that SolarEdge and LG Chem wall is still doing exactly what it was bought to do — it just needed the right person to swap one box and make the new kit talk to the old.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Almost never. A production fault usually points to a single inverter, not the whole system — the panels, the power optimisers and the battery are typically fine. On a SolarEdge system the faulty inverter is often still under warranty, which means a replacement unit at no hardware cost; you just need someone to arrange it and fit it.
SolarEdge inverters carry a 12-year standard warranty, which can be extended to 20 or 25 years, and the power optimisers are covered for 25 years. That means a fault on a system fitted ten years ago is very often still a warranty claim — well worth checking before anyone talks you into replacing it.
Yes, but it needs setting up properly. A decade on, the exact original inverter is no longer made, so SolarEdge supplies the current-generation equivalent. The newer unit's wiring and communications differ from the old one, so it has to be re-wired and reconfigured to talk to your existing power optimisers and battery, then re-commissioned. Done correctly, the system runs exactly as it did before.
Yes. We diagnose older premium systems, arrange manufacturer warranty replacements where they apply, and handle the swap and re-commissioning — including the awkward bit where newer replacement hardware has to be made to work with the kit that's already on the wall.

Tell me what your inverter is showing and roughly when the system was fitted. A SolarEdge fault is usually one inverter — often still under warranty — and we can arrange the replacement and swap it over.
