My GivEnergy hybrid inverter + battery system had worked faultlessly for 3 years when it suddenly stopped charging and discharging the battery. On contacting my supplier, who had used a sub-contractor for the installation work, I was provided with an email address at GivEnergy but, as it turned out, this is only for GivEnergy Software who are not able to assist. A Google search led to the Solar Tech Support web site, which contains a wealth of helpful information. I requested a remote solar diagnostic, and after providing Ron access to my inverter, he was able to identify and fix the problem within minutes. I am very impressed by Ron’s expertise and knowledge, which included useful information on the current state of GivEnergy Ltd. I would thoroughly recommend Solar Tech Support.

My GivEnergy solar and battery system is failing intermittently, GivEnergy is in administration and so is my installer, so it was a relief to get Ron’s expert advice.

Steve Trossell · Jun 2026 Google

Ron was extremely helpful and tried his best to repair/reset our GivEnergy inverter remotely. In the event he was unsuccessful but he couldn’t have been more helpful. If you have problems with a GivEnergy system please contact him. Highly recommended

Amazing support, went out of his way to help try and get us back up and running

Paul Smith · May 2026

Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

Declan S · Jun 2026

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Setting up a Solis system — what actually trips people up

Almost every Solis setup job we get is the same one: reconnecting the WiFi datalogger to SolisCloud after a router change, a broadband switch or a WiFi password update. The little plug-in logger on the side or bottom of the inverter stores your network name and password internally, so the moment those change it can no longer connect and the monitoring goes dark. Your inverter keeps generating the whole time — you only lose visibility, not solar.

The single biggest reason a reconnection fails is the band. Solis dataloggers only talk to 2.4GHz WiFi, never 5GHz, so a combined network that uses one name for both bands, or a mesh system with band steering on, will defeat the setup no matter how many times you try. Past that, it is almost always a mistyped WiFi password or a logger that needs popping back into configuration mode with its reset button. The logger's three LEDs — PWR, NET and COM — tell you which stage has stalled before you touch anything.

As independent engineers we walk you through the whole reconnection in a guided remote session, reading the LED behaviour and your SolisCloud account as we go. The remote diagnostic is free, guided remote fixes are from £75 on a no fix, no fee basis, and if the logger has genuinely failed we say so and point you at a replacement.

FAQ

Solis setup questions answered

Nine times out of ten it is the band. Solis dataloggers only support 2.4GHz WiFi — they cannot use 5GHz at all. If your router broadcasts both bands under one name the logger may try to join 5GHz and fail, and mesh systems like Eero, Google Nest or BT Whole Home often need band steering disabled. Use the 2.4GHz network name and password during setup. After that the usual culprits are a single mistyped password character or a logger that has dropped out of configuration mode — hold its reset button for about ten seconds to put it back into broadcast mode, then run the setup again in the SolisCloud app. The NET LED tells you where you are: flashing green means powered but not connected, solid green means it is on your WiFi and uploading.
Someone needs to be physically near the inverter, because during setup your phone connects directly to the logger's own WiFi network (named Solis_ followed by its serial number) to hand over your home credentials — that only works within range of the logger. What we do is guide you through every step live: checking the PWR, NET and COM LEDs, confirming your router is broadcasting 2.4GHz, working through the SolisCloud app, and verifying data is flowing again afterwards. That guided remote session is from £75 and you only pay if we get you reconnected. If the logger hardware has actually failed, we confirm that remotely first so you are not paying for a visit you do not need.
No — the period the logger was offline is gone and cannot be recovered, which is normal; the logger only resumes uploading from the moment it reconnects, so live generation and a current timestamp in SolisCloud confirm success. The good news is the inverter carried on generating throughout, so you have lost data, not energy. On cost: the remote diagnostic is free, no fix, no fee. A guided remote reconnection is from £75 and you only pay once it is working. If the datalogger turns out to be dead, or a fault needs hands-on attention at the inverter, on-site visits are from £245 and always quoted before we book anything.
