GivEnergy Repairs & Support in Mansfield

Mansfield and the Ashfield district have a growing number of GivEnergy batteries bolted onto government-scheme solar systems — ECO and Green Deal installs on ex-mining community housing that was never designed for battery storage. There are very few GivEnergy specialists covering this part of Nottinghamshire. We work remote-first from Yorkshire, resolving most faults same-day, and visit on-site when the wiring needs physical repair.
  • Remote-first — most faults resolved same-day without a visit
  • Independent — not affiliated with GivEnergy Ltd
  • On-site across Mansfield and Ashfield when needed

Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

Mr P · Jun 2026

My Givenergy battery stopped working nearly a month ago. After unsuccessfully reaching out to my installer, who looks like he's also busted, I found Solar Tech Support on a Google search. They fixed my issue in a couple of hours. Any frustrated Givenergy customers, I highly recommend these guys.

Sarma Amirapu · May 2026

Excellent service from Solar Tech Support. Extremely quick to respond, easy to deal with and clearly very talented engineers. They were persistent throughout a complex GivEnergy battery issue and resolved everything completely. Highly knowledgeable, professional and reassuring support from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Ron responded very promptly regarding my GivEnergy battery issue, his knowledgeable diagnosis was spot on and resolved the issue on first attempt. Would recommend to any and all.

Simon Hill · May 2026

Ron made more sense in 20 mins than our installer has done over the last 12 months There is a jungle out there and you need someone like Ron to give a comprehensive overview and solution

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Ian · May 2026

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Tony Deacon · May 2026

Contacted Ron with a problem and he sorted it out quickly with no problems at all. Very knowledgeable on anything solar/ batteries. I would recommend him to anyone

Phill · May 2026

I've spoken to Ron a couple of times with issues with my Givenergy installation. Such a friendly knowledge guy very highly recommended. Thank you very much for resolving my issues

michael fairhurst · May 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Hugh Speirs · Apr 2026

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

Christopher · Apr 2026

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration. So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing. If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

Mansfield context

ECO-scheme solar, ex-mining housing, and a GivEnergy aftercare desert

Mansfield and the Ashfield district were among the heaviest targets for government-backed solar installation in the East Midlands. ECO, Green Deal, and Nottinghamshire County Council programmes put solar on thousands of 1930s–1970s semis across the former coalfield communities. Those systems are now a decade old — and a growing number of homeowners have added GivEnergy batteries to capture what their panels still generate. The problem is that GivEnergy's installer network barely reaches this far, the companies that fitted the batteries have moved on, and the wiring connecting new GivEnergy hardware to old government-scheme electrics is where faults live.

ECO/Green Deal solar meets GivEnergy battery

The typical Mansfield setup: a 2–3kW FiT-era array on a 1950s semi, originally installed under ECO or Green Deal by a national company that no longer exists. The homeowner adds a GivEnergy AC-coupled battery during the energy crisis to use more of their own generation. The battery retrofit installer has 30 minutes on site — enough to mount the hardware and test it powers on, not enough to verify cable grades, re-rate MCBs, or configure the system for the household's actual tariff.

No local GivEnergy aftercare

Mansfield sits between Nottingham and Sheffield with neither city's GivEnergy installer network extending reliably into the Ashfield district. Homeowners who call the company that installed their battery often find the number disconnected, the voicemail full, or a six-week wait for a visit. We fill this gap with a remote-first model: most faults diagnosed and resolved same-day by phone and portal access, with on-site visits scheduled only when we know exactly what's needed.

1930s–1970s housing stock challenges

Mansfield's ex-mining community housing has specific electrical characteristics that affect GivEnergy installs. Consumer units are often older models with limited spare ways. Meter cupboards are tight — sometimes shared in semi-detached pairs. Cable runs between the battery location and the electricity meter can be long and routed through cold, damp spaces. These conditions accelerate the failure of thin communication and meter cables that were marginal from day one.

Documentation black hole

Many Mansfield homeowners have no paperwork for either their original solar installation or their GivEnergy battery. The ECO/Green Deal installer is gone, the battery company isn't answering, and the homeowner doesn't know what model they have, what warranty covers it, or how to access the monitoring portal. We identify the hardware from photos and serial numbers, rebuild the documentation, set up portal access, and verify warranty status with GivEnergy directly.

Common faults

GivEnergy faults in Mansfield — what we diagnose remotely and what needs a visit

For Mansfield, the split between remote and on-site matters more than anywhere else we cover. Software faults are resolved same-day from Yorkshire. Wiring faults need a scheduled visit — but we arrive knowing exactly what's wrong, what parts to bring, and how long the job takes. No wasted trips.

1
GivEnergy battery red status light

Remote fix. A red light on the battery indicates a state-of-charge miscalculation — the BMS has lost sync with the actual cell voltage. On Mansfield systems this often happens after mains interruptions (common on older housing stock with ageing fuse boards) or when the battery sits at minimum SOC for extended periods because the charge schedule doesn't match the household's tariff. A remote firmware reset and SOC recalibration resolves it in a single diagnostic session. If the red light returns repeatedly, it may indicate a deeper cell imbalance that needs an on-site battery calibration cycle.

2
GivEnergy WiFi offline

Remote fix. Portal and app show the system offline. The GivEnergy hardware is still working — the WiFi dongle has lost its router connection. On Mansfield properties where the broadband router is upstairs and the inverter is in a ground-floor cupboard or garage, the signal was always borderline. Any change — new router from the broadband provider, firmware update, or even moving furniture — breaks the connection. We reconnect the dongle remotely or talk the homeowner through the pairing process. For persistent signal problems, we recommend a WiFi extender positioned between the router and inverter.

3
BMS Communication Fail

On-site fix. The inverter displays "BMS Communication Fail" — the data link to the battery is broken. On Mansfield's ECO-scheme retrofits, this is a cable problem. The installer used standard Cat5 ethernet cable for the communication link between inverter and battery. Cat5 was never designed for screw-terminal connections in an electrical environment — the individual cores are too thin, they crack where the terminal screw compresses them, and the lack of shielding means electrical interference from adjacent power circuits corrupts the data signal. We replace the entire Cat5 run with Belden-grade shielded cable and terminate both ends with proper ferrules. One visit, permanent fix.

4
Meter communication failure

On-site fix. Import and export data disappears from the GivEnergy portal. The system can't track grid flow, so tariff-based charging stops working and the homeowner has no way to verify savings. The root cause is the meter communication cable — thin single-core wire that cracks at the screw terminal over time. In Mansfield's older housing, the cable run between the GivEnergy hardware and the electricity meter is often routed through cold, damp underfloor spaces or external meter boxes, which accelerates copper fatigue. We re-cable with heavier-gauge wire, ferrule-terminate both ends, and route through a protected path.

5
GivEnergy battery MCB tripping

On-site fix. The MCB protecting the GivEnergy battery circuit trips under load. On Mansfield's retrofit systems, the battery was added to a consumer unit that already had MCBs sized for the original 2–3kW solar array. Nobody re-rated the circuit for the additional battery charge and discharge current. The MCB holds under light load but trips when solar generation peaks and the battery charges simultaneously — typically on sunny afternoons. We upgrade the MCB to the correct rating for the combined circuit and inspect all terminations for signs of arcing or heat damage.

Remote-first

Why remote-first works better for Mansfield

Mansfield is 90 minutes from our base — so sending an engineer to guess at a fault doesn't make sense for you or for us. Instead, every Mansfield GivEnergy enquiry starts with a free remote diagnostic. We access your GivEnergy portal, review the generation and consumption data, check the configuration, and identify the fault. If it's software — charge schedule, eco mode, firmware, WiFi — we fix it remotely in that same session. If it's hardware — MCB, cable, meter — we schedule a single on-site visit with the right parts and a fixed price already agreed.

Charge schedule — corrected for your tariff · remote
Eco mode — enabled and optimised · remote
Export limit — set for your DNO area · remote
CT clamp direction — verified via portal data · remote
No paperwork, no installer

ECO installer gone, battery company not answering, no documentation — we start from scratch

Mansfield's GivEnergy support problem is worse than most cities we cover because neither layer of the system has ongoing support. The original solar was installed under ECO or Green Deal by companies that closed years ago — no documentation, no monitoring, no warranty records. The GivEnergy battery was added by a second company that's now unresponsive. We rebuild the full picture from photos, serial numbers, and portal data — then take over ongoing support.

01
System identification and documentation

Identify every component — solar panels, original inverter (or replacement), GivEnergy battery model, and communication hardware. We use serial numbers to pull manufacturer data, check installation dates, and determine warranty coverage. Many Mansfield homeowners don't know what brand of inverter or battery they have — we sort it out. Health check details →

02
Wiring inspection and remediation

On the on-site visit: check the communication cable (Cat5 → Belden replacement if needed), meter cable integrity (re-cable with ferrule-terminated heavier gauge if cracking), MCB ratings (upgrade to correct amperage for combined load), and the overall condition of the consumer unit. Address everything in a single trip so there are no return visits.

03
Portal setup and warranty verification

Create or transfer the GivEnergy monitoring account so the homeowner has full portal access. Verify the 12-year warranty directly with GivEnergy — it stays valid regardless of who installed it or whether that company still exists. If there's a covered fault, we handle the claim. FAQ

GivEnergy support in Mansfield — common questions

Free remote diagnostics resolve the majority of GivEnergy faults without a visit — pay only if we fix — charge schedule issues, eco mode misconfiguration, red status lights, portal offline, and firmware problems. On-site repair starts from £245 for hardware faults such as MCB tripping, BMS communication cable failures, and meter wiring faults. Inverter replacement is £795 including supply, installation, and commissioning. Mansfield is extended coverage, so we always start remote to identify exactly what's needed before scheduling a visit. Full pricing →
Very likely. Mansfield and Ashfield had some of the highest uptake of ECO and Green Deal solar in the East Midlands. These systems were fitted on older housing with basic consumer units designed for a simple 2–3kW feed. When a GivEnergy battery is retrofitted, the existing wiring often can't handle the additional load. MCBs trip because they were sized for the original circuit alone. Communication cables fail because Cat5 was used instead of Belden shielded cable. Meter connections drop because thin single-core wire cracks at the terminals. We diagnose remotely and fix the wiring on-site.
Yes — and for Mansfield, remote is almost always the best first step. Around 60–70% of GivEnergy faults are software or configuration issues we resolve without visiting: charge schedule corrections, eco mode adjustments, firmware resets, SOC recalibration, and WiFi reconnection. The free remote diagnostic identifies the fault and fixes it where possible (£75 only if we fix it), and gives you a written report with a fixed price for anything that needs an on-site visit.
GivEnergy's approved installer network is concentrated in major cities. Mansfield and Ashfield sit between Nottingham and Sheffield with limited local coverage. Many homeowners who had batteries installed by national companies during the energy crisis have since found those companies unresponsive or no longer servicing the area. We cover Mansfield from our Yorkshire base with a remote-first model — most faults resolved same-day without waiting for a local engineer.
