GivEnergy Repairs & Support in Huddersfield

Huddersfield's valley terrain and stone-built terraces create GivEnergy challenges you won't find in flatter areas — lower solar yield means different charge schedules, and older wiring in Colne Valley properties causes BMS and meter communication faults that most engineers misdiagnose. We're 30 minutes away in Leeds and cover all of Kirklees.

Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

Mr P · Jun 2026

My Givenergy battery stopped working nearly a month ago. After unsuccessfully reaching out to my installer, who looks like he's also busted, I found Solar Tech Support on a Google search. They fixed my issue in a couple of hours. Any frustrated Givenergy customers, I highly recommend these guys.

Excellent service from Solar Tech Support. Extremely quick to respond, easy to deal with and clearly very talented engineers. They were persistent throughout a complex GivEnergy battery issue and resolved everything completely. Highly knowledgeable, professional and reassuring support from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Ron responded very promptly regarding my GivEnergy battery issue, his knowledgeable diagnosis was spot on and resolved the issue on first attempt. Would recommend to any and all.

Simon Hill · May 2026

Ron made more sense in 20 mins than our installer has done over the last 12 months There is a jungle out there and you need someone like Ron to give a comprehensive overview and solution

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Ian · May 2026

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Tony Deacon · May 2026

Contacted Ron with a problem and he sorted it out quickly with no problems at all. Very knowledgeable on anything solar/ batteries. I would recommend him to anyone

Phill · May 2026

I've spoken to Ron a couple of times with issues with my Givenergy installation. Such a friendly knowledge guy very highly recommended. Thank you very much for resolving my issues

michael fairhurst · May 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

Mr Machin · May 2026

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Keith Ballard · Apr 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Hugh Speirs · Apr 2026

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

Christopher · Apr 2026

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration. So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing. If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

Huddersfield context

Valley terrain, stone terraces, and a growing GivEnergy retrofit market

Huddersfield sits where the Colne and Holme valleys meet — steep hillsides, stone-built terraces, and a generation profile that doesn't match the flat-roof assumptions most GivEnergy installers used. The town has a growing battery retrofit market driven by homeowners adding GivEnergy storage to existing FiT-era solar, plus a legacy of Mark Group government-scheme installations across Kirklees that left systems without aftercare. Both groups hit the same problem: GivEnergy hardware that works, but isn't configured for how Huddersfield properties actually generate and consume power.

Valley generation gap

Properties in the Colne Valley floor (Milnsbridge, Slaithwaite, Marsden) and north-facing slopes across Lindley and Crosland Moor generate 15–25% less solar than the installer's MCS projections assumed. GivEnergy systems configured with default charge schedules never fully charge from solar — the battery sits part-full and the homeowner pays grid rates to fill the gap. The fix is a charge schedule tuned to actual yield, not the installer's paperwork.

Mark Group legacy systems

Mark Group installed solar across Kirklees council properties before closing in 2019. Many of these systems have since had GivEnergy batteries retrofitted by second installers — creating a two-layer support problem where the original solar installer no longer exists and the battery installer may not understand the original wiring. We see this pattern regularly in Dalton, Birkby, and Fartown.

Stone terrace compact installs

Huddersfield's stone-built terraces have compact consumer units, often in under-stairs cupboards with limited space. GivEnergy batteries and inverters in these properties are frequently installed tight against walls with poor ventilation. The battery runs warmer, the fan cycles more often, and in some cases the thermal management triggers throttling that reduces charge and discharge rates — especially in summer.

Overhead lines and micro-outages

The Pennine fringe terrain means many Huddersfield properties — particularly in Holmfirth, Meltham, and the upper Colne Valley — are fed by overhead power lines rather than underground cables. During storms and high wind, these lines cause micro-outages that briefly disconnect the grid. GivEnergy inverters handle this well, but the battery management system sometimes fails to resync, causing BMS communication faults and red status lights that persist until manually cleared.

Common faults

GivEnergy faults we fix in Huddersfield — including the wiring ones other engineers miss

These are the faults we see on Huddersfield GivEnergy systems. The first two are software — resolved remotely. The rest involve wiring and hardware faults that are specific to how GivEnergy systems were installed locally, and require an on-site visit.

1
GivEnergy battery red status light

A red light on the GivEnergy battery is the most alarming fault homeowners report, but it rarely means the battery is dead. In most cases the state-of-charge (SOC) calculation has drifted — the battery management system thinks the cells are at a different level than they actually are, usually after a power interruption or firmware update. In Huddersfield, the frequency of storm-related micro-outages on overhead lines makes SOC miscalculation more common than elsewhere. A firmware reset and SOC recalibration resolves it remotely in most cases.

2
GivEnergy WiFi offline

The GivEnergy portal or app shows the system offline. The inverter and battery are still working — the WiFi dongle has lost its connection to the router. In Huddersfield's stone terraces, thick walls between the inverter location (usually the garage or under-stairs) and the router cause weak signal. Router changes, broadband provider switches, and BT Smart Hub updates are the usual triggers. We reconnect remotely or guide you through a dongle reset.

3
GivEnergy battery MCB tripping

The miniature circuit breaker on the GivEnergy battery circuit trips repeatedly — sometimes daily, sometimes only under heavy load. On Gen 1 GivEnergy systems across Huddersfield, this is almost always caused by MCBs that were undersized or poorly installed during the original fit. Installers working at pace during the battery boom fitted MCBs with inadequate ratings or loose connections that arc under load. The fix is straightforward — replace the MCB with the correct rating and re-torque the connections — but it requires an on-site visit.

4
BMS Communication Fail

The inverter displays "BMS Communication Fail" and stops charging or discharging the battery. This is a physical wiring fault, not a software issue. The communication cable between the GivEnergy inverter and battery should be Belden-grade shielded cable, but many installers — particularly on rush-fitted Huddersfield systems — used standard Cat5 ethernet cable instead. Cat5 works initially but the individual cores are too thin for screw terminals: they crack where the terminal screw bites down, creating an intermittent connection that fails under vibration or temperature change. The only reliable fix is replacing the Cat5 run with proper Belden shielded cable and re-terminating at both ends.

5
Meter communication failure

The GivEnergy system loses communication with the electricity meter — export readings disappear from the portal, the system can't track grid import/export, and tariff-based charging schedules stop working. The root cause is the meter communication cable: installers used thin single-core cable that cracks at the point where it's screwed into the meter terminal. The connection works when first tightened but degrades over months as the copper fatigues. Especially common in Huddersfield's older consumer unit setups where the meter and inverter are at opposite ends of the property. Requires re-cabling with heavier-gauge wire and proper ferrule termination.

Configuration

Your GivEnergy system is configured for a house that doesn't exist

Most GivEnergy installers configure charge schedules based on projected generation figures from the MCS certificate. In Huddersfield's valleys, actual generation is consistently lower — meaning the battery never fills from solar alone and the charge schedule needs adjusting to account for this. We audit your real generation data from the GivEnergy portal, compare it against the configured schedule, and rebuild the settings around what your roof actually produces and what your household actually uses.

Charge schedule — tuned to your actual valley-floor generation
Eco mode — balanced for lower-yield systems
Export limit — set to match your DNO approval
CT clamp direction — verified for your consumer unit layout
Mark Group territory

Mark Group installed the solar — someone else added the GivEnergy — neither answers the phone

Kirklees had one of the highest concentrations of Mark Group government-scheme solar installations in Yorkshire. When Mark Group closed in 2019, those homeowners lost their aftercare. Many have since added GivEnergy batteries through a second installer — creating a two-layer problem where neither the original solar company nor the battery company provides ongoing support. The wiring between the two systems is often the weak point: Cat5 cable where Belden should be, thin single-core meter cables that crack in screw terminals, and MCBs rated for the original solar load but not the added battery circuit.

01
Full system audit — solar and battery together

We inspect both the original solar installation and the GivEnergy retrofit as a single system — checking cable grades, MCB ratings, CT clamp placement, and communication wiring between inverter and battery. Health check details →

02
Wiring remediation

Replace Cat5 communication cable with Belden-grade shielded cable, upgrade thin meter cabling with proper ferrule-terminated connections, and re-rate MCBs for the combined solar-plus-battery load. These are the three wiring faults behind most persistent GivEnergy errors on Huddersfield retrofit systems.

03
Monitoring transfer and warranty check

Move the GivEnergy system from the installer's portal to your own account. Verify the 12-year warranty status directly with GivEnergy. If there's a covered fault, we handle the claim. GivEnergy warranty details →

FAQ

GivEnergy support in Huddersfield — common questions

Free remote diagnostics resolve most GivEnergy faults without a visit — pay only if we fix — red status lights, configuration problems, WiFi offline, and firmware issues are handled remotely. On-site repair starts from £245 for hardware faults including MCB tripping, BMS communication failures, and relay faults. Inverter replacement is £795 including supply, fitting, and commissioning. Huddersfield is 30 minutes from our Leeds base and carries no extra travel surcharge. Full pricing →
A red status light on a GivEnergy battery usually indicates a state-of-charge miscalculation or a firmware fault rather than a physical battery failure. The battery management system loses track of the actual charge level, often after a power interruption or firmware update. In Huddersfield's valley locations, storm-related micro-outages on overhead power lines make this more frequent. A remote diagnostic identifies whether a firmware reset and SOC recalibration resolves it, or whether an on-site inspection is needed.
Yes. Huddersfield and Kirklees had a concentration of Mark Group installations during the government scheme era. Mark Group closed in 2019, leaving homeowners with solar systems and no aftercare. Many have since added GivEnergy batteries through a second installer who may also have moved on. We take over full support — monitoring transfer, configuration audit, wiring inspection, warranty verification with GivEnergy directly, and ongoing fault resolution. GivEnergy Ltd entered administration on 9 April 2026 and no further hardware warranties will be honoured by GivEnergy Ltd. Alternative routes (installer cover, IBG, Section 75, MCS Consumer Code) may still apply.
Huddersfield sits in the Colne and Holme valleys, and solar generation on valley-floor and north-facing hillside properties is noticeably lower than rooftop projections assume. GivEnergy systems configured with standard charge schedules often fail to fully charge from solar alone, so we reconfigure around your actual generation data. The steep Pennine fringe terrain also means more overhead power lines — micro-outages during storms trigger BMS communication faults and red status lights that persist until cleared. And the wiring itself — Cat5 cable where Belden-grade shielded cable should be, thin meter cables cracking in screw terminals — causes intermittent faults that software diagnostics alone can't find.
