Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

Mr P · Jun 2026

My Givenergy battery stopped working nearly a month ago. After unsuccessfully reaching out to my installer, who looks like he's also busted, I found Solar Tech Support on a Google search. They fixed my issue in a couple of hours. Any frustrated Givenergy customers, I highly recommend these guys.

Sarma Amirapu · May 2026

Excellent service from Solar Tech Support. Extremely quick to respond, easy to deal with and clearly very talented engineers. They were persistent throughout a complex GivEnergy battery issue and resolved everything completely. Highly knowledgeable, professional and reassuring support from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Ron responded very promptly regarding my GivEnergy battery issue, his knowledgeable diagnosis was spot on and resolved the issue on first attempt. Would recommend to any and all.

Simon Hill · May 2026

Ron made more sense in 20 mins than our installer has done over the last 12 months There is a jungle out there and you need someone like Ron to give a comprehensive overview and solution

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

Ian · May 2026

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron want out of is way to help, nothing was to much. He was very thorough in what he did Very knowledgeable I would highly recommend Ron and his company He did a fantastic job for me. if you have any problems, he'll do his best to help you out and resolve your problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Dennis Brown · May 2026

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Tony Deacon · May 2026

Contacted Ron with a problem and he sorted it out quickly with no problems at all. Very knowledgeable on anything solar/ batteries. I would recommend him to anyone

Phill · May 2026

I've spoken to Ron a couple of times with issues with my Givenergy installation. Such a friendly knowledge guy very highly recommended. Thank you very much for resolving my issues

michael fairhurst · May 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support in desperation. After explaining the issues I had with my system a diagnosis was made and a solution proposed. Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

Mr Machin · May 2026

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Keith Ballard · Apr 2026

Contacted Solar Tech Support when trying to understand what my Givenergy inverter problem might be and what might be my options. Received good/honest advise which backed up my thoughts.

Hugh Speirs · Apr 2026

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

Christopher · Apr 2026

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration. So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

This company are a rare gem, I had a very unusual problem following a failed firmware upgrade on my GivEnergy kit. I then found out GivEnergy were in administration and had dismissed all their support staff! None of the usual fixes to try and restore my inverter comms would work, and I looked everywhere, forums, GivEnergy youtube support videos - even AI couldn't figure it out. My installer was talking about huge sums for system replacements, and being vague / evasive about if they'd even install replacement GivEnergy inverter. Enter Solar Tech Support, reassuring and knowledgeable from the very start, I've learnt loads about my solar system though the friendly chat while my engineer worked as he diagnosed the problem and figured out a fix procedure that I've not found anywhere else - amazing. If you need solar system repairs - especially if you like me have been left high and dry by GivEnergy, I cannot recommend this company enough. Give them a call.

Bradford context

Why Bradford's GivEnergy problems start at the consumer unit

Bradford has more FiT-era solar installations per postcode than almost anywhere in our coverage area. When homeowners started adding GivEnergy batteries to these older systems during the energy crisis, the installation challenge wasn't the battery itself — it was fitting new GivEnergy hardware into consumer units that were already full from the original solar install. Rushed retrofit work across Manningham, Girlington, Great Horton, and Allerton left systems with undersized MCBs, sub-standard communication cable, and meter connections that fail within months.

FiT-era solar meets GivEnergy retrofit

Thousands of Bradford terraces have 2–4kW FiT-era arrays with Fronius or Solis string inverters. GivEnergy batteries are AC-coupled alongside these — adding a second inverter, new MCBs, communication cabling, and meter connections to an already-full consumer unit. The dual-inverter setup works when wired correctly, but many Bradford installs were done under time pressure during the 2022–2023 battery rush.

Three-installer history

Some Bradford properties have had three different companies touch their system: Mark Group or A Shade Greener for the original solar (pre-2015), a battery retrofit company for the GivEnergy add-on (2022–2023), and sometimes a third for configuration or fault repair. Each company's wiring standards differ. When something fails, nobody takes ownership. We treat the entire system as one — regardless of who installed each part.

Inner-city terraced meter layouts

Bradford's inner-city terraces typically have the electricity meter in a cupboard under the stairs or in an external meter box at the front. GivEnergy systems installed in these properties route long meter communication cables from the battery (often in the kitchen or garage) to the meter at the opposite end of the house. The longer the cable run, the more vulnerable it is to the thin single-core cable cracking in screw terminals — the root cause of most meter communication failures we see locally.

Aire Valley terrain and shading

Properties across Shipley, Bingley, Baildon, and the hillsides around Thornton have lower solar generation due to terrain shading — particularly in winter months. GivEnergy systems on these properties need charge schedules adjusted for reduced yield. If yours was configured using the installer's projected figures rather than actual generation data, the battery likely never fully charges from solar.

Common faults

GivEnergy faults we fix in Bradford — especially the retrofit wiring ones

Bradford's GivEnergy faults split into two categories: software issues resolved remotely, and wiring faults from rush-fitted retrofits that need an on-site visit. The wiring faults are the ones most engineers miss because the error messages point to software.

1
GivEnergy battery MCB tripping

The circuit breaker on the GivEnergy battery circuit trips — sometimes under load, sometimes randomly. On Bradford's Gen 1 retrofit installs this is the most common physical fault we see. The battery was added to a consumer unit already loaded with the original solar circuit, and the installer fitted an MCB rated for the battery alone rather than the combined load. Under peak conditions — battery charging from grid while solar is generating — the MCB can't handle the current. We replace it with the correct rating and re-torque every connection in the circuit.

2
BMS Communication Fail

The inverter shows "BMS Communication Fail" and the battery stops responding. On Bradford retrofit systems, this is almost always a cable fault — not a software issue. The communication link between the GivEnergy inverter and battery should use Belden-grade shielded cable, but the majority of rush-fitted Bradford installs used standard Cat5 ethernet cable. The thin Cat5 cores fracture inside the screw terminals over time — especially in consumer units that vibrate when the boiler or immersion heater kicks in. The error comes and goes until the cable fails completely. The fix is replacing the full Cat5 run with Belden shielded cable and using proper ferrule terminations.

3
Meter communication failure

Export and import readings vanish from the GivEnergy portal, tariff-based charge schedules stop working, and the system can't tell whether the house is importing or exporting. The cause is the meter communication cable — thin single-core wire that cracks where it's screwed into the meter terminal block. In Bradford's terraced properties, the cable run between battery and meter is often the longest in the house. Every metre of thin cable adds another potential failure point. We re-cable with heavier-gauge wire using ferrule terminations at both ends.

4
GivEnergy battery red status light

A solid or flashing red light on the GivEnergy battery is alarming but rarely means the battery has failed. The battery management system has lost track of the actual state of charge — usually after a power interruption, firmware update, or prolonged period at very low SOC. On Bradford systems where the charge schedule doesn't match actual solar yield, the battery regularly drains to its floor level, increasing the chance of SOC drift. A firmware reset and recalibration resolves most cases remotely.

5
GivEnergy WiFi offline

The GivEnergy app or portal shows the system offline. The battery and inverter continue working — only the monitoring connection is lost. The WiFi dongle has dropped its router connection, typically after a broadband provider change, router firmware update, or when the router assigns a new IP. On Bradford terraces where the inverter is in the kitchen extension and the router is in the front room, signal strength through internal walls is often marginal. We reconnect remotely or walk you through the dongle reset.

Configuration

Two inverters, one consumer unit — is your GivEnergy actually configured for the way your system works?

Bradford's GivEnergy retrofits sit alongside existing string inverters, and the configuration has to account for both. The CT clamp needs to measure whole-house flow — not just the GivEnergy circuit. The charge schedule has to work around what the original panels actually generate. And the eco mode settings need to prevent the GivEnergy system from fighting the existing inverter for grid export. We audit the full dual-inverter setup and configure both systems to work together rather than against each other.

Charge schedule — set for your actual dual-inverter generation
Eco mode — configured to avoid inverter conflict
Export limit — correct for combined system output
CT clamp — measuring whole-house, not just battery circuit
Three installers deep

Mark Group did the solar, someone else did the battery, a third tried to fix it — we take over the lot

Bradford's solar history runs deeper than most cities. Mark Group, A Shade Greener, and HomeSun all installed heavily here during the government scheme era. When those companies closed or withdrew, homeowners were left with working panels but no support. The battery retrofit wave added GivEnergy hardware through a second installer — and sometimes a third was called in to fix what the second got wrong. Each company used different wiring standards, different MCB ratings, and different cable grades. We audit the entire system as one, fix the wiring regardless of who installed it, and become the single point of contact going forward.

01
Whole-system wiring audit

We inspect the original solar wiring, the GivEnergy retrofit wiring, and every connection between them. Cat5 communication cable gets replaced with Belden-grade shielded cable. Thin meter wiring gets upgraded with ferrule terminations. MCBs get re-rated for the combined load. Health check details →

02
Dual-inverter configuration

Configure the GivEnergy system to work with — not against — the existing string inverter. CT clamp placement verified for whole-house measurement. Charge schedule, eco mode, and export limit all set for the combined system output and your current energy tariff.

03
Monitoring and warranty

Transfer the GivEnergy system to your own portal account. Verify the 12-year warranty directly with GivEnergy — it stays valid regardless of installer changes. If there's a covered fault, we handle the full claim. GivEnergy warranty details →

FAQ

GivEnergy support in Bradford — common questions

A free remote diagnostic resolves the majority of GivEnergy faults without a site visit — charge schedule problems, eco mode misconfiguration, portal offline, and firmware issues are all handled remotely. On-site repair starts from £245 for physical faults such as MCB tripping, BMS communication failures, and meter wiring issues. Inverter replacement is £795 including supply, fitting, and commissioning. Bradford is 25 minutes from our Leeds base with no travel surcharge. Full pricing →
Bradford has one of the highest rates of GivEnergy battery retrofits onto FiT-era solar systems in Yorkshire. These AC-coupled installations add a GivEnergy inverter and battery alongside an existing string inverter — creating two inverters in one consumer unit. The wiring between them is where problems start. Many Bradford installs used Cat5 ethernet cable for the battery communication link instead of Belden-grade shielded cable. Cat5 cores crack in screw terminals over time, causing intermittent BMS Communication Fail errors. A remote diagnostic identifies whether the fault is configuration or wiring.
Yes. Bradford had three major installation waves: Mark Group government-scheme solar (pre-2015), energy-crisis battery retrofits (2022–2023), and ongoing new installs. Some properties have had work done by two or three different companies. We take over the full system regardless of who installed each component — monitoring transfer, configuration audit, wiring inspection, and warranty verification with GivEnergy directly. Following GivEnergy Ltd's administration (9 April 2026), the manufacturer's 12-year warranty is no longer honoured by GivEnergy Ltd — but alternative routes (installer cover, IBG, Section 75, MCS Consumer Code) may still apply. Installer gone bust guide →
On GivEnergy Gen 1 systems across Bradford, MCB tripping is almost always an installation fault rather than a battery problem. The installer fitted an MCB rated for the battery circuit alone, not for the combined solar-plus-battery load. Under peak conditions — battery charging from grid while solar is generating — the MCB trips. The fix is an MCB upgrade to the correct rating and re-torquing all connections. This requires an on-site visit from £245.
