GivEnergy account guides — ownership transfer & GivBack
Moved into a house with a GivEnergy system and can't access it? Want to earn money from your battery through the GivBack programme? Both scenarios are covered here.
No account access, portal shows the previous owner, or an installer registered the system under their own account — we recover GivEnergy monitoring access and rebuild the documentation trail.

GivEnergy account & programme guides
Bought a house with a GivEnergy system? The portal is still registered to the previous owner or their installer. This guide covers how to request account transfer, what to do when the previous owner is unresponsive, and how we can recover access when the normal process fails.
GivBack is GivEnergy's VPP programme — it automatically exports your battery's energy during grid peaks and pays you monthly. This guide covers eligibility, sign-up via the GivBack app, how grid events work, what happens to your charge schedule, and how to opt out.
Can't access your GivEnergy account?
This is one of the most common problems we deal with for GivEnergy owners. There are three main scenarios: the previous homeowner's account is still linked and they are uncontactable; the installing company registered the system under their own credentials and has since ceased trading; or access was lost following a portal migration or password change.
GivEnergy's standard account transfer process works when the previous owner is contactable and cooperative. When they're not, the process requires evidence of ownership — installation certificates, commissioning documents, or DNO G98/G99 notifications. We help compile that evidence and liaise with GivEnergy on your behalf to recover access.
GivEnergy account — common questions
Transferring a GivEnergy system requires removing the previous owner's account from the portal and adding the new owner as primary device manager — this is done through givenergy.cloud. If the previous owner's account is inaccessible or the system was registered under an installer's account, a system recovery process is needed. See our monitoring transfer guide for the full process.
GivBack (part of the GivLink programme) is GivEnergy's virtual power plant scheme. It automatically exports your battery during national grid peak periods and pays you monthly. You need a GivEnergy battery, smart meter, and mainland UK address. Sign up via the GivBack app with your GivEnergy account details. See our GivLink & GivBack guide for full eligibility, sign-up steps, and what happens to your charge schedule during grid events.
Yes. If you've lost access to your GivEnergy portal, we can help you recover access, reset your credentials, or transfer monitoring to your account. Common scenarios include forgotten passwords, inherited systems where the previous owner's account is no longer contactable, or portals registered under an installer's account. Remote diagnostics from £75 can identify the best path to restore your access and give you full control of your system.
This is very common — many installers register GivEnergy systems under their own credentials during commissioning. This means you don't have direct control of your monitoring account. STS can help transfer the monitoring account to your ownership so you have full access to your system's data, settings, and the GivBack programme. We handle the process of liaising with GivEnergy and your installer to complete the transfer.
