Growatt Fault Code Index

Every Growatt error code from the inverter display and ShineServer portal — what it means, the most likely cause, and what to do. Find your code in the index below or use the category sections to browse by system area.

Growatt fault you can't resolve?

If your Growatt inverter is showing a fault code and you need expert diagnosis, a remote diagnostic identifies the cause and recommends the fix — usually within 30 minutes.

Book Growatt diagnosis — £75 → How diagnostics work
How to find your fault code. Growatt fault codes appear on the inverter LCD display as "Error" or "Fault" code number. They also appear in the ShineServer/ShinePhone portal under Device → History, and in the ShineMaster log. The code format is typically Error XX where XX is a two-digit number. Note the exact error number and whether it is transient or persistent before booking.
Inverter & AC faults

Fault codes generated by the inverter in response to AC supply problems, DC overvoltage from panels, or temperature issues. These typically cause the inverter to stop generating.

Error 01 Grid over-voltage
Grid AC voltage exceeded upper limit. Usually transient. Reconnects automatically when grid normalises. Common on export-dense circuits.
Error 02 Grid under-voltage
Grid AC voltage below lower limit. Check AC isolator and consumer unit. If connections are sound, contact DNO.
Error 03 Grid over-frequency
Grid frequency above upper limit. Transient, reconnects automatically.
Error 05 PV over-voltage
PV string voltage exceeds inverter maximum. Do not touch DC cabling. Requires engineer to check string configuration.
Error 07 Over-temperature
Inverter temperature too high. Check inverter ventilation — minimum 20cm clearance on all sides. Clear any dust from vents. If in direct sun, shade the inverter if possible. If Error 71 (fan fault) is also present, address the fan first.
AFCI arc fault ⚠ Arc fault — newer models
Arc fault detected on DC string — applies to Growatt models with AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection. This indicates a dangerous electrical discharge in the DC wiring. Do not touch any DC cabling. Engineer inspection required before restarting. The inverter display may show "Arc-fault" or a specific Error code depending on firmware version.
Insulation / isolation faults

Fault codes related to insulation resistance between the PV string and earth, or between AC wiring and earth. These are safety-critical faults.

Error 04 ⚠ Insulation fault
Insulation resistance between PV string and earth is below minimum. This is the most common Growatt fault code. Do not touch DC cabling until an engineer has confirmed the fault location. Common causes: water ingress at MC4 connectors, damaged string cable, faulty panel junction box. Share your exact code and system details when booking — we identify the fault source from monitoring data.
Error 04 (AC side) ⚠ AC isolation fault
AC wiring insulation fault. Do not touch any AC wiring. Isolate at consumer unit. Requires a qualified engineer.
Grid faults

Fault codes related to grid supply, grid voltage, and grid current issues.

Error 08 AC over-current
Output current exceeds rated maximum. May indicate a downstream wiring fault. Isolate inverter and check AC connections.
Error 10 No grid
Grid supply absent. Check AC isolator and consumer unit breakers. If the grid is present, the issue is with the AC connections or the inverter's grid detection circuit.
Error 21 Residual current fault
Residual current detected at inverter output. Do not touch AC wiring. Isolate at consumer unit. Requires a qualified engineer to check AC wiring integrity.
Grid under-frequency / Low frequency Under-frequency disconnect
Grid frequency dropped below the lower limit (typically below 47Hz in the UK). The inverter disconnects automatically and reconnects when frequency recovers. Shown as "Low frequency" or "Under frequency" on the display on most Growatt string models rather than a specific Error number. Transient events are normal; frequent occurrences should be reported to the DNO.
Battery / BMS faults

Fault codes from the battery management system — communication failures, voltage protection events, and thermal management.

Error 61 Battery comms fault
Inverter has lost communication with the battery BMS over the RS485 or CAN bus. Check communication cable between inverter and battery. Power cycle the system. If persistent, check battery firmware version matches inverter expectations.
Error 62 Battery over-voltage
Battery voltage exceeded safe maximum. Do not attempt to charge. Requires engineer to check battery management system.
Error 63 Battery under-voltage
Battery voltage below safe minimum. Battery protection has activated. Allow a slow charge cycle. Contact Growatt support if battery does not recover.
Error 71 Fan fault
Cooling fan has failed or is obstructed. Check vent area for blockages. May require fan replacement.
Communication faults

Faults related to data communication between inverter and monitoring portal, and internal processor communication.

ARM-DSP comms fail Internal processor fault
Internal communication fault between ARM processor and DSP processor. Often cleared by a full power cycle (including DC isolator). If persistent, the ARM or DSP board may need replacement.
No data — portal offline Monitoring connectivity
ShineServer has not received data from the ShineWifi or ShineLAN logger. Check logger LED status. A flashing green LED indicates WiFi connection issues. Reconfigure WiFi via ShinePhone if needed.

Growatt fault code questions

Growatt fault codes appear on the inverter's LCD screen as Error XX (e.g. Error 04). They are also logged in the ShineServer portal under Device > History, and in ShinePhone under the error history tab. Note the exact error number — including whether it is a warning or error — before contacting support or searching this index.

Error 04 is an insulation fault — the resistance between the PV string and earth has dropped below a safe threshold. This can indicate water ingress at MC4 connectors, damaged string cabling, or a faulty panel junction box. You should not touch any DC cabling. The system should be isolated at the consumer unit until an engineer has identified the fault source. Do not restart the system repeatedly — this does not fix the fault and may worsen the underlying issue.

The ARM-DSP fault indicates the inverter's two internal processors have lost communication. This is often caused by a firmware corruption or a transient startup fault — a full power cycle (turning off AC isolator, DC string isolator, and waiting 60 seconds before restarting) clears it in many cases. If it returns persistently, the inverter control board may need replacement or a firmware reflash by a qualified engineer.

Yes, the ShinePhone app and Growatt server log fault history that STS engineers can review. Remote diagnosis starts from £75, and many firmware-related faults can be resolved without a site visit.
