What's included
Old unit decommission and removal

Safe isolation of DC strings, AC supply, and battery (if present). Disconnection and removal of the old inverter. Responsible disposal — we take it away. All connection points documented before disconnection.

New unit supply and installation

Replacement inverter supplied and sourced from authorised distributors. Mounted, earthed, DC strings reconnected with polarity verified. AC connection made including new MCB/RCBO if required. All connections to manufacturer specification.

Commissioning and configuration

Commissioned to UK G99 parameters. Export limit set. Monitoring account created or migrated from old serial number. Battery parameters configured (timed charge windows, SOC, tariff schedule) if applicable. EPS re-enabled if previously active.

DNO G99 variation

G99 variation form submitted to your DNO on your behalf. Covers the change of generation equipment. Includes reference number in post-installation report. No extra charge — included in the service.

Testing

Full generation test on-site. Battery charge/discharge test if applicable. EPS function test if EPS circuit present. System confirmed operational before engineer leaves site.

Post-installation report

Written report documenting: new inverter model and serial number, configuration settings, test results, monitoring portal details, and DNO notification reference. Keeps a permanent record for warranty, insurance, and future reference.

What is not included by default: If upgrading to a hybrid inverter and adding a battery at the same time, the battery hardware and connection are a separate line item quoted alongside the inverter replacement. EPS circuit wiring (if not previously installed) is also quoted separately — see the EPS installation guide. Everything is itemised in the written quote before work begins.

How an inverter replacement works — step by step

1
Enquiry and assessment

Submit details of your system (inverter brand, model, fault description, panel count). If any uncertainty about whether the inverter is truly faulty, we carry out a remote diagnostic first. We confirm the correct replacement specification and provide a written quote covering all costs.

2
Written quote and approval

You receive a written quote before any work begins. It covers: replacement unit cost (hardware), installation labour, commissioning, DNO G99 variation, and any additional components. Once you approve the quote, we order the hardware and schedule the installation date.

3
On-site installation day (4–6 hours)

Engineer arrives on the agreed date. Old inverter safely disconnected and removed. New inverter mounted, all connections made to specification. Commissioned to UK G99 parameters. Monitoring portal configured. Battery reconnected and configured if applicable. Full test carried out before sign-off.

4
Documentation and DNO notification

Post-installation report provided with all settings, test results, and new inverter details. G99 variation form submitted to your DNO — you receive the reference number in the report. You leave with a complete record of the replacement and a system that's fully documented for insurance and future reference.

Combine replacement with a battery upgrade

If your current inverter is a string model (no battery capability), replacing it with a hybrid model opens the door to battery storage in the same job or as a follow-on. This is often the most cost-effective approach — one scaffold hire, one electrical installation, one DNO application.

We can quote the inverter replacement and battery installation together as a package, or separately if you want to phase the investment. Both jobs are assessed and quoted in writing before any commitment.

Inverter replacement — common questions

String inverter replacement (supply, fit, commission) £795. Hybrid inverter (upgrade option) from £995. Three-phase and larger residential units from £1,200. Commercial three-phase inverter replacement from £1,995 — we work with all major commercial brands including SMA, Huawei, Solis, SolarEdge, and GoodWe. See commercial emergency repair for more detail. All costs include decommissioning the old unit, DNO G99 variation, monitoring setup, and post-installation report. Hardware and labour are quoted separately. All costs confirmed in writing before work begins — no surprises.

Not always. If your inverter has clearly failed (physical damage, manufacturer confirmed replacement needed, documented fault code with no resolution path), we can proceed directly to replacement. If there is uncertainty about whether the inverter is at fault or whether repair is viable, a remote diagnostic (£75) is worth doing first — it prevents ordering an unnecessary replacement. The diagnostic fee is credited against the replacement.

All major UK brands: GivEnergy, SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, Sunsynk, Growatt, Solis, Huawei, SolaX, Fox ESS, Enphase, Lux Power, Sigenergy, AlphaESS, Victron, and more. We replace like-for-like or can recommend a current equivalent or upgraded hybrid model based on your goals.

Yes. If replacing with a hybrid model, we can supply and install a compatible battery in the same visit or as a planned follow-on job. Combining the work in one visit saves on labour and scaffold costs. Both the inverter and battery are quoted separately in writing before any commitment.

No. Inverter replacement is not a planning matter in England, Scotland, or Wales for standard domestic installations. A G99 variation form to your DNO is required — we handle this as part of the service. Listed buildings or properties in conservation areas should check with their local authority, though in most cases inverter replacement is unaffected by heritage restrictions.

Yes — we travel to all areas of the UK for inverter replacement work. A mileage supplement may apply for locations far from our base in Yorkshire. Contact us to confirm availability and lead times for your area. Remote diagnostics are available nationwide immediately.
