Overview
What is the GivEnergy AIO?

All-in-one battery storage, inverter, and energy management

The GivEnergy All-in-One (AIO) brings battery storage, inverter technology, and smart energy management into a single compact unit. Unlike older hybrid inverters, the AIO is modular and scalable — you can stack multiple units to expand capacity, and configure output power to match your grid export limits and energy demands.

AC-coupling explained

The AIO 6kW and 3.6kW use AC-coupling: your solar panels connect to an existing PV inverter, and the AIO battery inverter connects to the output of that inverter via AC cables. This topology is ideal for retrofits because it avoids complex rewiring of existing solar arrays. The AIO charges from excess solar production and discharges to power your home, with surplus energy flowing back to the grid. During blackouts, EPS (Emergency Power Supply) mode activates, allowing the battery to power your home's circuits automatically.

DC-coupling with AIO 2 + MPPT

The AIO 2 + MPPT uses DC-coupling: solar panels connect directly to a dedicated MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) module with 6 independent trackers. This maximises energy harvest from complex roof layouts and shaded areas, delivering 97.1% efficiency. The MPPT feeds DC power directly to the AIO inverter, which manages battery charging and grid export. DC-coupling is the preferred choice for new builds and systems with multiple roof angles or partial shading.

The flagship choice: AIO 2 + MPPT

The AIO 2 + MPPT is GivEnergy's most advanced system, combining a 13.5 kWh battery inverter with a dedicated MPPT unit featuring 6 independent trackers. Unlike the AC-coupled models, which rely on a separate PV inverter, the AIO 2 + MPPT connects solar panels directly to the MPPT module — each tracker independently optimising its string's power output. This delivers 97.1% efficiency and a 15-year warranty, the longest in GivEnergy's product range.

Output is configurable from 6 kW to 12 kW to match your DNO export limit. The MPPT module accepts up to 20 kW of PV input, supporting large solar arrays. AFCI protection provides arc-fault safety, and the system supports grid services, whole-house backup, and EPS like all AIO models.

6 independent MPPT trackers: why it matters

Traditional single-MPPT systems optimise voltage and current for the entire array as one unit, losing efficiency whenever part of the roof is shaded or oriented differently. The AIO 2 + MPPT's 6 independent trackers treat each PV string as a separate optimisation problem:

1
Shading tolerance

One shaded string doesn't drag down the others — each tracker continues optimising its own string independently.

2
Multi-directional arrays

East, south, and west-facing panels each receive optimal tracking across the full day — maximising morning and afternoon harvest.

3
Energy yield improvement

Up to 5–10% higher annual energy harvest compared to single-MPPT systems on complex or partially shaded roofs.

Highest efficiency

97.1% with direct DC conversion and 6 independent MPPT trackers.

Longest warranty

15-year warranty reflects premium MPPT architecture and component quality.

New build ready

DC-coupled design ideal for new homes with fresh solar arrays and complex rooflines.

AC vs DC — which to choose
Decision guide

When AC-coupling makes sense — and when it doesn't

Both topologies have their place. Here is how to decide which is right for your installation.

Choose AC-coupled (AIO 6kW / 3.6kW)

You already have an existing PV inverter
You want to retrofit quickly without rewiring solar
Budget is a priority and installation simplicity matters
Roof layout is simple (south-facing, minimal shading)
You want to scale storage by stacking multiple units

Choose DC-coupled (AIO 2 + MPPT)

Building a new home with fresh solar panels
Roof has multiple angles, orientations, or shading
Maximum energy yield and efficiency (97.1%) is the priority
You want the longest warranty (15 years)
Planning to install 15–20 kW of solar panels

Key differences summarised

Installation simplicity

AC-coupled wins for retrofits — no panel rewiring needed. DC-coupled wins for new builds where fresh wiring is being laid anyway.

Energy efficiency

DC-coupled (97.1%) outperforms AC-coupled, especially on complex or shaded roofs where multiple MPPT trackers make a material difference.

Warranty

AC-coupled: 12 years. DC-coupled AIO 2 + MPPT: 15 years — the longest available in the GivEnergy range.

Scalability

AC-coupled models stack multiple units (up to 6 × 6 kW = 36 kW). The DC-coupled AIO 2 + MPPT is a single flagship unit but accepts up to 20 kW PV input.

Typical cost

AC-coupled is lower upfront. DC-coupled costs more but delivers superior long-term ROI through higher energy yield and shorter payback on larger arrays.

FAQs

GivEnergy All-in-One questions

The AIO is AC-coupled (standard 6 kW and 3.6 kW models) or DC-coupled (AIO 2 + MPPT). AC-coupled AIOs connect to an existing PV inverter via AC cables, making retrofit straightforward without rewiring solar. Hybrid inverters typically refer to older all-in-one units with integrated battery management. The AIO 2 + MPPT connects solar panels directly to its MPPT module for higher efficiency (97.1%).

The AIO 6 kW and 3.6 kW (AC-coupled) require an existing PV inverter and solar panels to charge from solar. They can still charge from the grid using Timed Charge mode. The AIO 2 + MPPT is DC-coupled and is the correct choice for new builds with fresh solar panels — or for retrofits where you want to connect panels directly to the MPPT module rather than via an existing inverter.

Yes. The AIO 6 kW supports up to 6 parallel units for 81 kWh total and 36 kW output. The AIO 3.6 kW supports up to 3 parallel units. You can also add a GivBat expansion battery alongside your existing AIO unit to increase storage without adding a second inverter — useful if you want more capacity without a second installation.

The AIO 2 + MPPT combines a 6–12 kW configurable inverter with a dedicated 20 kW MPPT unit featuring 6 independent trackers. It delivers 97.1% efficiency and is designed for new builds and complex multi-orientation installations. The 15-year warranty — the longest in the GivEnergy range — reflects its advanced MPPT architecture and superior component quality compared to the AC-coupled models.

Yes. All AIO models include EPS (Emergency Power Supply) for automatic blackout backup. During a grid outage, battery power is automatically supplied to your home. G98 or G99 grid standards compliance must be verified with your DNO before installation — homes exporting more than 3.68 kW typically require G99 pre-registration.

A 10% reserve is recommended for general use to protect battery health and longevity — meaning a 13.5 kWh AIO retains 1.35 kWh as a buffer. If you rely on EPS blackout backup, consider a higher reserve (20–30%) so there is always sufficient power available during an outage. Adjust these settings in the GivEnergy portal under Battery Options → Operating Range.
