EPS & Battery Backup Installation in Yorkshire
Thousands of Yorkshire homes now have battery storage — but many were installed without EPS being wired up. If your battery sits there doing nothing during a power cut, that's fixable. We install EPS circuits, changeover switches, and configure backup power on all major hybrid inverter brands. Based in Leeds, covering the full region.
Tell us your inverter brand and model, and what you want protected during a power cut. We'll confirm compatibility and recommend the right EPS configuration for your setup.

Battery storage has been one of the fastest-growing solar upgrades across Yorkshire over the past three years. GivEnergy alone accounts for a huge proportion of new installations in the region. But many of these batteries were installed without EPS being wired up — either because the installer didn't offer it, the homeowner wasn't told it was an option, or the installer went bust before completing the work. The result: a battery that charges and discharges perfectly in normal use, but does absolutely nothing when the grid goes down.
Switchover time — no flicker, no restart
Typical backup duration at 500W load (5–10 kWh battery)
Starting price for EPS installation (wall socket £795, dedicated circuit from £795)
The fix is usually straightforward — if your hybrid inverter supports EPS mode (most do), we install the wiring, add the neutral-earth bond, configure the inverter, and load-test it on site. Your battery then works as backup power automatically, without you having to do anything when the grid fails. Full guide to the 4 EPS configuration types →
Four ways to configure EPS
The right configuration depends on how much of your home you want protected during a grid outage. All four options are available across Yorkshire.
A single 13A socket wired from the inverter's EPS terminals. Powers one or two essential appliances — router, phone charger, lamp. The simplest and cheapest option.
A separate sub-board protecting multiple circuits — lights, key sockets, freezer, boiler, broadband. Covers the essentials without the complexity of a full-house changeover.
A rotary isolator lets you switch your entire consumer unit to battery power manually. Full-house coverage, but you need to physically turn the switch when the grid fails.
An automatic transfer switch detects the grid outage and switches your entire consumer unit to battery power within milliseconds. No manual intervention required. The premium option.

Inverter brands we install EPS on in Yorkshire
EPS requires a hybrid inverter with battery storage. These are the brands we configure most often across the region — all support EPS mode with proper wiring and configuration.
AIO and hybrid range. The most common battery brand in Yorkshire. EPS supported on all hybrid models — often just needs wiring and enabling in the portal.
Hybrid range. Growing rapidly across Yorkshire. EPS configuration via Advanced Settings → Off-Grid/EPS in the inverter menu.
SPH and SPA series. Common on retrofit battery installs. EPS via System Parameters → Off-grid Settings.
Hybrid G4 range. EPS enabled in Settings → EPS Mode. Supports dedicated circuit and full-house configurations.
H1 and H3 series. EPS supported with proper wiring. Common on newer Yorkshire installs alongside GivEnergy.
Lux Power, Alpha ESS, Sigenergy, and more. If your hybrid inverter isn't listed, contact us to confirm compatibility.
Standard string inverters (SMA Sunny Boy, Fronius non-hybrid, SolarEdge single-phase) do not support EPS. If you have a string inverter and want backup power, you would need an inverter replacement to a hybrid model first.

Already have EPS but it doesn't activate during power cuts?
This is the most common EPS problem we see across Yorkshire — the battery has EPS mode enabled, but when the grid actually fails, the protected circuits trip or nothing happens. In almost every case, the cause is a missing neutral-earth bond on the EPS output. It's a straightforward fix that we can resolve in a single visit.
EPS installation in Yorkshire — common questions
An EPS wall socket costs £795. A dedicated EPS circuit starts from £795 including wiring, neutral-earth bond, and inverter configuration. A full-house manual changeover switch starts £795. A full-house automatic changeover switch starts from £1,295. All prices include Part P certification, testing, and a written post-installation report. No additional travel charge within Yorkshire. Most modern hybrid inverters support EPS: GivEnergy, Sunsynk, Growatt SPH/SPA, SolaX Hybrid G4, Fox ESS, Lux Power, Alpha ESS, and Sigenergy. Standard string inverters — SMA Sunny Boy, Fronius non-hybrid, SolarEdge single-phase without backup interface — do not support EPS. If you have a string inverter and want backup power, you would need an inverter replacement to a hybrid model first.
Almost always a missing neutral-earth bond. When the grid fails and EPS activates, the inverter output becomes an isolated island supply. Without a neutral-earth bond, RCDs trip because the earth reference disappears. This is the single most common EPS fault we see across Yorkshire — and it is a straightforward fix. Yes. Many battery installations in Yorkshire were completed without EPS being wired up — either because the installer did not offer it, or because the homeowner was not aware it was possible. If your hybrid inverter supports EPS mode, we can add the wiring, configure the inverter, and test it regardless of who installed the original system. Book an EPS installation →
