Brand mix

EPS compatibility across the Leeds brand mix

Leeds has the widest variety of inverter brands in our coverage area. Some support EPS directly, others need an additional step. Here's how the most common Leeds brands break down for backup power.

EPS-ready — wiring only
GivEnergy · Sunsynk · Growatt · SolaX · Fox ESS

These hybrid inverters support EPS natively. If you already have one of these with battery storage, adding EPS is a wiring job — dedicated circuit or changeover switch, neutral-earth bond, inverter configuration. Half a day on site in most cases.

Needs battery first
SolarEdge · Enphase · Fronius · Solis (string)

These are string inverters or microinverter systems — they don't support EPS. To get backup power, you need a hybrid inverter with battery (like a GivEnergy AIO) installed alongside via AC coupling. The hybrid handles the battery and provides the EPS output. A combined battery-plus-EPS project.

Leeds has a notably high proportion of SolarEdge and Enphase systems compared to other cities in our area — particularly in Roundhay, Alwoodley, and Adel where premium installs are common. If you have one of these systems and want backup power, the route is a battery retrofit with EPS wired in from day one. Battery retrofit in Leeds →

Property types

Choosing the right EPS configuration for your Leeds property

The right EPS setup depends on your property size, battery capacity, and what you want protected. Leeds has everything from compact terraces to large detached homes — here's how we typically size EPS across the city.

Terraces — Headingley, Hyde Park, Beeston

Compact properties with 5 kWh batteries typically suit a dedicated EPS circuit protecting lights, fridge-freezer, boiler, and broadband. Keeps the essentials running for 10–18 hours depending on load. The most cost-effective option for smaller homes.

Dedicated circuit — from £795
Semis — Horsforth, Morley, Pudsey

Mid-size properties with 5–10 kWh storage. A dedicated EPS circuit works well here too, but with more protected circuits — adding the upstairs ring main and a socket circuit keeps bedrooms and offices running. A manual changeover is worth considering if you want full-house coverage.

Dedicated circuit from £795 · Manual changeover £995
Detached — Roundhay, Alwoodley, Adel, Otley

Larger homes with 10 kWh+ batteries often want full-house protection. An automatic changeover switch means the entire property switches to battery power within milliseconds — no manual intervention, no circuits left unprotected. The premium option for premium installs.

Automatic changeover — from £1,295

Solarplicity customers

Had battery storage added to a Solarplicity system? EPS may be the missing piece

A number of former Solarplicity customers in Leeds had battery storage fitted after their original solar installation — either by Solarplicity before they closed or by a third party afterwards. In many of these cases, the battery was set up for daily self-consumption only, with no EPS circuit wired. If your hybrid inverter supports EPS mode (and most do), we can add the backup wiring as a standalone job — no need to touch the rest of the system.

EPS wiring added to existing battery setup
Inverter EPS mode configured and tested
Neutral-earth bond fitted
Grid-failure simulation and load test on site

If your Solarplicity system is solar-only with no battery, you'd need a battery retrofit first — we can handle that as a combined battery-plus-EPS project with EPS wired in from day one.

Troubleshooting

EPS already installed but not working?

The most common EPS fault across Leeds is a system that has EPS mode enabled in the inverter settings but trips the moment the grid drops. In the vast majority of cases, the root cause is a missing neutral-earth bond on the EPS output. When the grid disconnects, the inverter creates an isolated supply — without a neutral-earth bond, RCDs lose their reference and trip instantly. It's a single-visit fix.

FAQs

EPS installation in Leeds — common questions

EPS wall socket: £495. Dedicated EPS circuit: from £795 — includes wiring, neutral-earth bond, inverter configuration, Part P certification, and load testing. Manual changeover switch: £995. Automatic changeover switch: from £1,295. Leeds is our home base, so there is never any travel charge and we can usually schedule within the same week. Full comparison of all 4 EPS types →

SolarEdge and Enphase are string inverter and microinverter architectures — neither supports EPS natively. To get battery backup on these systems, you need a separate hybrid inverter with battery storage (such as a GivEnergy AIO) installed alongside your existing setup via AC coupling. The hybrid inverter handles the battery and provides the EPS output. Your SolarEdge or Enphase system continues to generate as normal. This is a combined battery-plus-EPS project rather than a standalone EPS add-on. Battery retrofit in Leeds →

Yes. Many Solarplicity customers in Leeds had battery storage added after the original solar installation — sometimes by Solarplicity themselves, sometimes by a third party. If your system now includes a hybrid inverter with battery, we can add EPS wiring regardless of who installed it. If your Solarplicity system is solar-only with no battery, you would need a battery retrofit first — we can handle that as a combined project.

Leeds is our home territory — we can usually book EPS installations within the same week. The installation itself typically takes half a day for a dedicated circuit, or under two hours for an EPS wall socket. We carry the most common sub-board components and neutral-earth bond kits, so there is rarely a wait for parts. Book an EPS installation →
