Brilliant support to get my solar battery working again. I didn’t expect help on a Saturday but Ron answered the phone, listened and sent me the information I needed to get it going, answered questions etc. A brilliant service I’d happily recommend.

Alison F. Cockerill · Jun 2026 Google

Ron was brilliant. He really tried to help. He spent hours trying to fix our GivEnergy AIO and ultimately it became apparent that it needed parts to fix the BMS management system. As there appears to be no replacement parts available on the market, he gave excellent advice on what options are now available to move forward. He is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.

Mark Mayson · Jun 2026 Google

Called back within a day and gave good advice.

Rob and Sue Dempster · Jun 2026 Google

Ron was extremely helpful and tried his best to repair/reset our GivEnergy inverter remotely. In the event he was unsuccessful but he couldn’t have been more helpful. If you have problems with a GivEnergy system please contact him. Highly recommended

Neil Crichton · Jun 2026 Google

Big thanks to Ron. He was incredibly patient and helpful over the phone, taking the time to walk myself and the installer through every troubleshooting step. Through lots of testing he figured out the issue was definitely a hardware issue, which allows us to consider our next steps. Support fees are clear and they operate a “no fix no fee” policy. It is rare to find that kind of honesty combined with dedicated phone support nowadays. I highly recommend Ron, if you need help with your solar system don’t hesitate to give him a call.

Steve M · Jun 2026 Google

A superb service from Ron who went beyond the normal service received from other Tech support companies. I live abroad and was badly let down when my givenergy system failed (and the company went bankrupt) and the local supplier ran away from the problem. Ron sorted the problem and even accessed specialist coding for the inverter that would not be available for suppliers. Ron also ran a full diagnostic to insure that all was in good working order afterwards. Without Rons support and patient assistance I doubt I would ever have got the system back up and running. Well done and thankyou and you have a customer for the future.

Philip Davey · Jun 2026 Google

Thank you for your diligence. On this occasion the battery was able to be saved but they have given a route to hopefully arrange a repair from the manufacturer.

David Bateman · Jun 2026 Google

Ronald was great to help me sort out my giv energy inverter issue since company has gone bankrupt in april 26.

Ankur Kr. Gupta · Jun 2026 Google

I’ve used Ron a couple of times regarding issues with my Givenergy inverter and batteries after Givenergy went bust. My system stopped working properly so it was a stressful time but Ron resolved the issues and got my system working properly again. He’s really helpful and knowledgeable and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and to use him again if the need arose.

Michael Fairhurst · Jun 2026 Google

Very very helpfuland so quick. Made sure that a non expert like myself understood what the problem was and how to resolve it.

Declan S · Jun 2026

Contacted Solar Tech about my Givenergy battery storage system that wasn't working. Battery status was "idle". Given the company Givenergy had gone bust, I need independent quality technical help. Very patient and clearly very knowledgeable about battery systems Ron diagnosed possible issues and suggested several possible remedies. Worked our way through them and fortunately it began to work. The fault was very specific and only an experienced engineer would have thought to check. Suffice to say I'll be back if I need independent support again. Lastly you only pay if there is a solution. Outstanding.

Mr P · Jun 2026

My Givenergy battery stopped working nearly a month ago. After unsuccessfully reaching out to my installer, who looks like he's also busted, I found Solar Tech Support on a Google search. They fixed my issue in a couple of hours. Any frustrated Givenergy customers, I highly recommend these guys.

Sarma Amirapu · May 2026

I have a GivEnergy system consisting of two batteries, two inverters and a controlling EMS (Energy Management System) which has not worked since Nov 2025. After six months I discovered Solar Tech Support, reached out to them and Ron phoned me back – how often do you get that service? Could not be more helpful – worked directly with me over the phone, outside what I would call normal working hours. Lucid explanations and we were able to discuss the issues and history using camera and email history. As this was a very rare setup, Ron was able to access an EMS expert in the field to confirm the solution. One sunny day in, I am now only paying for standing charge and a few pence for spikes in grid consumption while battery catches up with house demand.

When my GivEnergy system had an issue, I was completely left without support and had honestly lost all hope. Thankfully, I searched online and found Ron, which completely turned things around. After sending him a message, he responded incredibly fast and called me to assure me that he would get the problem fixed. I really admire his dedicated, supportive nature and his determination to find a solution. With this kind of outstanding attitude and customer service, he has absolutely secured a future customer in me.

Ron took me through a diagnostic to confirm my GivEnergy Inverter had a fault. A common one as it turns out with the AC Inverter. As GivEnergy is defunct there is no immediate fix, aside from sourcing 2nd hand replacement. It may be that a fix becomes available over the summer which would make a lot of GivEnergy customers happy (Again)

Fantastic service, even contacted a manufacturer to arrange replacement parts for me. Great communications, explained all they were doing and what I had to do, clearly and precisly. Followed up to confirm all was ok. Excellent service.

After GivEnergy went into liquidation, just my luck, my battery started playing up (internal board crashed). Contacted my installer - not interested! Found Solar tech support on a Google search. Sooo glad I found this company! Ron is extremely helpful and has plenty of experience. He soon confirmed what the fault was, and helped me to get my system up and running again. Now moved my GivEnergy account to Solar tech support, and will definitely use again if I have more issues. Unusual to find such a helpful company in these times, no morons reading scripts, just direct contact with the engineer.

Ron is a super star. Two months ago my GivEnergy battery failed a firmware upgrade leaving it a brick. My installer couldn't/wouldn't fix it. GivEnergy couldn't/wouldn't fix it. Then they went into administration and all hope was lost. A flurry of emails later and Ron had diagnosed the fault (failed USB flash drive, something I'd suspected) and talked me through resolving it. Two months of nothing resolved in about 3 hours. It's great to work with someone who pays attention to the details, knows that they're doing (not just following a script) and gets stuff sorted without a fuss or up-charging.

I can add to the list of customers who had already 'given up' on GivEnergy due to their appalling customer service, and that was before they went into administration. So you can imagine my desperation when, having changed my ISP and my Inverter, predictably, proving to be the only device that didn't connect automatically to my new network, I found zero prospect of any customer support with GivEnergy having called in the administrators just five days earlier! The salvation came from Solar Tech Support. My IT advisor stumbled across their web site and some very helpful tips for beleaguered GivEnergy customers, as well as an offer to provide direct assistance. Nothing ventured, I decided to drop them an E-Mail, with very low expectations based on my experience of GivEnergy customer support. Within an hour Ron had responded with some pin point advice, and after a few exchanges of E-Mails he had nailed the problem, enabling the combined efforts of my IT advisor and solar installer to resolve it and reconnect my Inverter. Thank you Solar Tech Support, and Ron in particular, for coming to the aid of a deserted and despondent GivEnergy customer. Expert, razor sharp advice and first class customer service, even though I wasn't officially a customer.

Wakefield context

Thousands of government-scheme systems still exporting for free — battery changes that

The Wakefield district was a major beneficiary of government solar schemes, with Mark Group installing Fronius and Solis string inverters on thousands of 2–4 kW arrays between 2010 and 2014. These systems are still generating, but without battery storage they export surplus electricity for pennies and buy it back at full price in the evening. A 5 kWh battery on a typical Wakefield 3 kW system shifts 60–80% of that surplus into self-consumption — the payback period is usually under 5 years.

60–80%

Of surplus generation captured for evening use with a 5 kWh battery on a typical Wakefield 3 kW system

Same week

Site survey scheduling across the Wakefield district — 25 minutes from our Leeds base

2–3 weeks

Typical end-to-end timeline from consultation to operational battery in the Wakefield area

If you're on a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Flux or Intelligent Go, a battery does even more — charging from cheap overnight electricity and discharging during peak hours. Combined with solar generation, this can reduce grid purchases by 70–90% in summer months.

Brand compatibility

Battery retrofit for the inverter brands common across Wakefield

The Wakefield district's inverter landscape is dominated by two groups: original Mark Group installs (Fronius, Solis) and more recent GivEnergy battery retrofits. Here's how battery installation works for each.

Fronius IG / Primo — the original Mark Group inverter

The most common inverter across Wakefield's government-scheme installs. AC coupling a battery alongside a healthy Fronius is straightforward — the battery connects to the consumer unit independently and your Fronius continues generating as normal. If your Fronius is approaching 10+ years and showing faults, replacing it with a hybrid inverter and DC-coupled battery in one visit saves a second installation.

Solis string inverters — the other Mark Group staple

Solis 2.5G and 4G mini inverters were the second most common Mark Group installation across the Wakefield district. Like Fronius, these are solar-only string inverters that pair easily with an AC-coupled battery. No changes needed to the existing system. If the Solis is still performing well, AC coupling is the cheapest route. If it's failing, the DC-coupled hybrid upgrade makes more financial sense.

Already have GivEnergy? Expand or optimise your storage

GivEnergy is now the dominant battery brand in the Wakefield area, usually retrofitted onto older solar systems. If you already have a GivEnergy AIO or hybrid and want more capacity, we add slave battery modules — no new inverter needed. If your GivEnergy system isn't performing as expected, we diagnose and reconfigure before recommending additional hardware. GivEnergy expansion →

Coupling options

AC or DC coupling? For Wakefield, it depends on your inverter's age

Most Wakefield systems have Fronius or Solis inverters installed 10–12 years ago. If the inverter is healthy, AC coupling is cheaper. If it's on its last legs, DC coupling combines the replacement and battery in one job.

AC Coupling — inverter still healthy
Battery connects to consumer unit alongside existing inverter
Zero changes to your current solar setup
Single day installation — no scaffolding, no roof work
From £2,995 (5 kWh) · £4,500–7,000 (10 kWh)
DC Coupling — inverter failing or end of life
Replaces ageing Fronius/Solis with modern hybrid in one visit
Higher efficiency — solar charges battery directly on DC bus
Optional EPS backup power included at minimal extra cost
£7,000–12,000 total including hybrid inverter and battery

Wakefield recommendation: If your Fronius or Solis is still generating cleanly after 10+ years, AC coupling is the cheaper, faster route — keep the existing inverter and add a standalone battery. If the inverter is throwing faults, showing reduced output, or already dead, DC coupling with a hybrid inverter is the smarter investment. A free remote assessment tells you exactly where you stand. Pricing

Battery retrofit pricing across the Wakefield district

AC coupled · 5 kWh
From £2,995

The right fit for Wakefield's typical 2–3 kW government-scheme arrays. Captures most daily surplus and covers evening use through to bedtime on a standard household.

AC coupled · 10 kWh
£4,500–£7,000

Better suited to larger 4 kW systems or homes on time-of-use tariffs. Stores enough for overnight use plus morning peak demand — ideal if you're on Octopus Flux or similar.

DC coupled (inc. inverter)
£7,000–£12,000

Hybrid inverter plus battery in one package. The smart route when your Fronius or Solis is already failing — combines inverter replacement with battery in a single visit.

Every quote includes hardware, installation, CT clamp, commissioning, DNO G99 variation, and a written post-installation report. Wakefield is 25 minutes from our Leeds base — no travel surcharges. Full battery guide with technical details →

Mark Group installations

Mark Group system in Wakefield? Your panels are fine — the inverter might not be

Mark Group installed thousands of solar systems across the Wakefield district between 2010 and 2014 under government energy efficiency programmes. The panels are typically still performing well after 10+ years, but the Fronius IG and Solis string inverters are reaching end of life — intermittent shutdowns, reduced output, or fault codes are common. Adding a battery at the same time as replacing the inverter is the most cost-effective upgrade path. One visit, one project, one commissioning.

FAQ

Adding a battery in Wakefield — common questions

AC-coupled battery installation in the Wakefield district starts at £2,995 for a 5 kWh system — fully installed and commissioned with DNO G99 variation handled. 10 kWh systems cost £4,500–7,000. DC-coupled installations — where we replace your existing inverter with a hybrid model and add battery together — range from £7,000 to £12,000. The DC route often makes more sense in Wakefield where many original Fronius or Solis inverters are reaching end of life. Full battery guide →
No. Adding a battery to an existing FiT-registered system does not change your tariff payments. You continue to receive generation and export payments as before. Many Wakefield systems were installed under the FiT scheme between 2010 and 2014 — the tariff is protected regardless of what upgrades you make to the system afterwards. The only requirement is a DNO G99 variation notification, which we handle as part of every installation. Book a consultation →
If your Fronius or Solis inverter is showing faults, reduced output, or intermittent shutdowns after 10+ years, combining the replacement with a battery is usually the best value option. A like-for-like string inverter replacement starts at £795. But for roughly the cost difference, you can upgrade to a hybrid inverter that handles both solar generation and battery storage — plus optional EPS backup power. One installation visit covers everything.
Yes. We cover the entire Wakefield district for battery retrofits including Castleford, Pontefract, Normanton, Featherstone, Hemsworth, Knottingley, and all surrounding villages. The whole district is within 30 minutes of our Leeds base, so site surveys and installations are scheduled on the same timeline as central Wakefield — typically within the same week for surveys.
